Nigerian activist, Lawyer, SaharaReporters Publisher and Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, AAC, Omoyele Sowore, has issued an ultimatum to President Bola Tinubu and his Service Chiefs on the release of abducted school children and teachers in Oyo state.
Sowore vowed to embark on a protest to Aso Rock Villa if the school children are not released.
This statement was contained in a post that Omoyele Sowore shared on his official X handle on Saturday, May 30, 2026.
This is coming after some students and teachers were abducted by bandits at the Oriire Local Govenment Area of Oyo state.
In the post that Omoyele Sowore made on his page, he said he will shut down Aso Rock in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja if the victims are not released.
Omoyele Sowore said Tinubu and his service chiefs must look for a way to release the schoolchildren from the hands of their abductors.
“If Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his service chiefs fail to track down and secure the release of the abducted Oyo school children and other kidnapped people, we will have no choice but to occupy Aso Rock Villa this week”.
Meanwhile, public primary and secondary school teachers in Oyo State downed tools on Monday as the Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, launched an indefinite strike over the abduction of teachers and pupils near Ogbomoso.

The strike began June 1, 2026, after a directive issued by NUT Sunday night.Teachers and students were taken that day. Two weeks later, NUT says there’s still “uncertainty” around their rescue and safe release.
In its statement, NUT said the prolonged detention has created “fear and anxiety” among members and discouraged parents from sending children to school.
“The situation has heightened tension across affected communities and raised concerns over the safety of teachers and learners,” the union stated.
NUT ordered all public school teachers statewide to withdraw services “until further notice.” Members were told to stay law-abiding and remain at home for safety.
The strike, NUT said, is to force government authorities to “intensify efforts” towards securing the abductees’ release.
