The South African authority has extradited six Nigerians accused of wire fraud tothe United States of Anerica.
The South African Police Service made this known in its official X handleon Frisay, saying the alleged criminals were members ofthe BlackAxe, who were arrested in conjuction with the Interpol for alleged invlovement in romance scam with 100 women from the United States..
According to the terse statement provided by the police, the alleged fraudsters,a also known in Nigerian parlance as Yahoo Boys, duped their victimsof more than R100 million through online romance/love scams, and where later arrested n 2021 for the allged crime and for alleged membership of the cult group known as the Black Axe Organised Criminal Network.
The allged criminals have now been handed over to the US FederalBureau of Intelligence, with the assistance of Interpol, the South African Police set today.
“The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI), commonly known as the #Hawks, in collaboration with #INTERPOL South Africa, will today facilitate the extradition of six Nigerian nationals to the United States of America,” SAPS said.
Romance fraud has recenlty become common in Nigeria and other African countries, with many women, essentially from Europe and US becoming victims to fruadsters who pretend to fall in love with them,but for truth they are now sincere.
In a recent report, a 68-year-old British grandmother, Dawn Otewell cried out after her 31-year-old Nigerian lover absconded after arriving in the Unoted Kingdom on a spouse visa.The couple had earlier had a wedding in Nigeria,which went viral on the social media.
