PFIPC Scandal: Why ICPC Quizzed Gbajiabiamila, President’s CoS – Counsel

The Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajiabiamila has been interrogated by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, in connection with the controversial Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council PFIPC scandal.

The Source reports that the progenitor of the disputed agency Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi had alleged that he paid a whopping sum of N400 million in bribery to Gbajiabiamila by proxy as part payment for a  N600 cash-for-appointment deal that secure him the position of the Director -General of the phantom interventionist agency.

However, he informed that things began to fall apart when he he could not concede about 48 per cent of the agency total budgetary allocation of N24 billion to the president’s Chief of Staff as kickbacks.

In all Adeyemi maintained that it was wrong for Gbajiabiamila ,and the presidency to tag as a conman operating a nebulous agency when in actual fact they were privy to all events leading to its birth.

The Presidency, through a statement from Bayo Onanuga, had in distancing itself from the now infamous and scandalous incident, described Adeyemi as a con artist who deceived a coterie of top Government officials to secure undue recognition both for himself and his fake agency, including securing office space at the Federal Secretariat through the Office of the Secretary to Government of the Federation, SGF, a waiver for the employment of about 300 take off staffers ,and a 1.3 billion allocation in the 2026 Appropriation Act.

President Bola Tinubu, obviously embarrassed by the damaging effects of the development had, penultimate week, amidst dissenting opinions from opposition camps and concerned Nigerian, directed the ICPC to launch an investigation with a view to establishing the actual circumstances surrounding the what has now qualified as the biggest scandal of the year.

This was in addition to the police resuscitating its almost forgotten  prosecution of Adeyemi over alleged forgery, and impersonation, with the embattled DG of the fake agency smoked out from his hide out after the court issued a warrant of arrest on him .

In a statement, Jiti Ogunye Gbajabiamila’s counsel  confirmed on Monday that the Chief  Staff to the President was a guest of the anti-graft Commission with a view to stating his side of the story..

“In full cooperation with the ICPC as directed by the President of Nigeria ,I hereby confirm that my client, Femi Gbajiabiamila, Chief of Staff to the President of Nigeria, responded to the invitation of the ICPC and appeared at about 15:00hrs on Monday July ,20 ,2026 ,as part of the ongoing investigation into the activities of the PFIPC fake agency, among others .

“My client gave his testimony, responded to questions accordingly, and had returned to his duty post”, Ogunye stated.
