The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, (ICPC), has commenced a statewide tracking and performance audit of 10 constituency projects valued at about N657 million across Ekiti State.
The exercise, which commenced on Tuesday, is aimed at verifying the physical implementation, quality and compliance of projects facilitated by National Assembly members representing the state.
The tracking exercise covers the three senatorial districts and six critical sectors, including power, water, roads, education, healthcare and agriculture.
The ICPC team comprises investigators and technical experts, including engineers and members of the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NIQS), are expected to conduct on-the-spot assessments of the projects.
Speaking with journalists during the exercise, the Chief Superintendent of Investigation at the ICPC, covering Ondo and Ekiti States, Andrew Osove, explained that the initiative was part of the commission’s broader efforts to promote transparency, accountability and value for money in public expenditure.
Osove explained that the exercise was designed to ascertain whether projects awarded for execution in various communities had been implemented in line with approved specifications.
According to him, the commission was not only interested in whether a project existed physically, but would also examine the quality of materials, scope of work and level of completion to determine whether the government and the people were receiving value for the money spent.
“We are in Ekiti today to track 10 projects worth about N650 million. The thrust of this exercise is to ensure that National Assembly members and ministers who have been issued contracts to execute projects in communities have actually executed those projects.
“The ICPC is not just particular about execution of projects. We are also particular about execution of those projects to specification, and this is done in order to guarantee value for money.”
