The African Democratic Congress, ADC, has claimed that it collaborated with the Accord Party and other democratic forces to stop the rampaging political machine of the ruling All Progressive Congress during last Saturday’s Osun State Governorship Election.
This revelation comes on the heels of claims by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN, suggesting the existence of a pre-election pact between Governor Ademola Adeleke and the APC on the second term ambition of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Governor Adeleke, had, against all odds trounced his main rival Bola Oyebamiji and emerged victorious at the August 15, 2026, Osun State off-circle gubernatorial polls.
However, while congratulating Governor Adeleke on Sunday, August 16, 2026, Keyamo reminded him of the need to respect the unwritten agreement purportedly reached with the President, who as it were, has observed his own part of the bargain by aiding his victory.
The Osun State Governor has since rubbished Keyamo’s insinuations, insisting that his professed support for the President’s re-election bid is predicated on some other factors outside a non-existent pact.
But on a Trust TV interview on Monday, the ADC national spokesperson, Bolaji Abdullahi, while reacting to the abysmal performance of the party during the Osun gubernatorial election, informed that it rather worked closely with the Accord Party to keep the APC at bay.
According to him, although there was no formal pronouncement directing ADC members to support Accord Party, he however explained that the party cooperated with it fully before and during the election.
He emphasized that the opposition’s collaborative effort and its positive outcome in Osun is an indication that the APC-led administration at the centre can be defeated if the opposition camp comes together.
“We cooperated with Accord Party. It is something that was deliberate and we are glad the outcome has justified the confidence that everyone has put in the process, and it has proved that the opposition working together, can actually defeat this incumbent Government, no matter how awesome they are”, Abdullahi stated.
He, however, said that the APC cannot claim sole credit for Adeleke’s victory, insisting that the resilient Osun State electorate deserve a pat on the back for coming out en masse to vote and defend their votes.
The ADC spokesperson, similarly, paid tribute to Governor Adeleke for his fighting spirit, securing victory inspite of all odds .
