“Davido is a son of the State. His mother was from Edo State. We are proud of him. Anytime he chooses to visit the State, we shall host and fete him” – Okpebholo

Following the wide criticism that has trailed the threat against International Music Star, David Adeleke, with the moniker, Davido, by Kassy Chukwu, Senior Special Assistant to Governor Monday Okpebholo on Digital Media from visiting Edo State, Governor Okpebholo has distanced himself and the Edo State Government from such action.

The aide, Kassy Chukwu had banned Davido from entering the State for any performance and threatened him that boys would remove his teeth with slaps if dares enter Edo.

But dismissing Chukwu’s threat,  Kassim Afegbua,

Edo State Commissioner for Information and Strategy described Chukwu as an “impostor” and “fraud,” stressing that the State Government was not behind the statement.

He said, “Like all other Nigerians, we love and welcome Davido in Edo State.”

According to him, Edo remains open to everyone regardless of political affiliation, beliefs or other associations.

Afegbua stressed that the Edo State Government would be willing to collaborate with Davido if he decides to perform in Edo in the future, adding that Governor Okpebholo  maintains relationships across different political and social groups in the state.

He further described Davido as one of Edo’s illustrious sons, noting that the singer’s mother hails from the State.

He said, “Should he wish to visit Edo State, we would happily host and fete him.”

The Commissioner explained that the disagreement between Davido and the Governor during the build-up to the recent Osun State governorship election was purely political and not personal, as he described the Musician as a Nigerian global ambassador whose activities in the music industry has contributed to the country’s international image.

Afegbua added that the State Government was pleased with the singer’s achievements in the music industry and expressed hope that he would win a Grammy award in the future.
