Nigeria’s Mexico Ambassador-designate  Reno Omokri has explained why he made a u-turn and became a supporter and defender of President Bola Tinubu, a man he had earlier poured all kinds of investives on.

Not a few people were shocked when Omokri not  only began to defend Tinubu but joined his Government considering his stand against the Predicted. He had, before his turnaround labeled Tinubu a drug lord and a certificate forger and more.

But explaining his new found unprecedented love for President Tinubu and his Government, Omokri disclosed that he was wrong about President Bola Tinubu when he described him as a “drug lord”.

Proof: According to Omokri investigations he carried out in the United States declared Predicted Tinubu clean. He said after the investigations, he found no evidence to support the claim that Tinubu was a drug baron.

In September of 2022, Omokri said,  a trip he undertook to Chicago to independently verify reports about Tinubu’s academic history and alleged links to drug-related activities proved the President’s innocence.

Omokri: “I honestly believed what the media reported. Like most Nigerians, probably you who believe me, but I did something that no other Nigerian did. I went to Chicago State University.”

At the University, he explained, he was  provided with documentary and photographic evidence, and newspaper clippings which confirmed that Tinubu attended the University.

He said: They gave me documentary evidence, photographic evidence, newspaper clippings, and then they have a hall where the president is there because the president is an alumnus.”

It was the findings, Omokri said that made him to publicly turnaround and embrace Tinubu even when he knew of the political consequences.

Omokri: “Right there in Chicago, I came out, even though it was against my own political best interest, and I said, Look, it is not true,” he said.

Omokri also disclosed that he examined Tinubu’s  US records.

He said: “The results of the checks were negative for any criminal arrest records or warrant for Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“There was an investigation. Bola Ahmed Tinubu was not the subject of the investigation. The President was not the person that was being investigated. The controversy centres partly on a 1993 US civil forfeiture proceeding involving about $460,000 linked to accounts associated with Mr Tinubu.

“The money was forfeited to the US government in a case connected to a wider investigation into heroin trafficking. The proceeding was a civil forfeiture case rather than a criminal conviction of Mr Tinubu.”

Omokri agreed that the records could be deployed by political opponents during the 2027 campaign, even when he had  withdrawn the “drug lord” allegation.

In same way Omokri revealed that he also went to Peru to investigate the drug allegations made against Peter Obi buy found they were hogwash.

Omokri: “I went to Peru. When, if you remember, they accused Peter Obi of also being a drug lord. I went. I interviewed the Peruvian officials and I said, you know, Peter Obi is innocent. There’s nothing there.”
