Access Bank Advert

Senior Special Assistant to the Osun State Governor on Bureau of Social Services, Mr Bello Sheriff, has explained that the latest  embargo on some accounts of the state government was as a result of sone contracts awards which dated back to the administration of former Governor Rauf Aregbesola.

According to him, the case before the Federal High Court in Lagos, involves contracts for water infrastructure projects in Ilesa West.

He described the latest Federal High Court order restricting access to some accounts of the Osun State Government as a legacy matter that predates the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke.

Sheriff revealed that the dispute arose from a contract awarded during the administration of former Governor Rauf Aregbesola, while the subsequent administration of former Governor Gboyega Oyetola terminated the contract, leading to a legal dispute.

He was reacting on a social media to a post linking  the Federal High Court in Lagos order directing commercial banks to place a “Post No Debit” restriction on accounts operated by the Osun State Government in connection with a $13.924 million and N157.5 million arbitration award in favour of Gamji Nigeria Company Limited.

Sheriff pointed out that the development should not be interpreted as evidence of financial impropriety under the Adeleke’s administration, stressing that the present government inherited the matter and is dealing with its consequences.

He said the Adeleke administration was committed to fiscal responsibility and prudent management of public resources, adding that the government would continue to address liabilities inherited from previous administrations through lawful processes.

“You are not knowledgeable enough to understand that the case predated the Adeleke era. Aregbesola awarded the contract and Oyetola terminated same, thus leading to a court case.”

“The Adeleke administration is one given to fiscal responsibility. Therefore, there is no cause for alarm. We will fix the mess of the APC.

“The current restriction is separate from the EFCC-related freeze of Osun accounts earlier in August. The latest case involves contracts for water infrastructure projects in Ilesa West, while the arbitration award was issued on July 24, 2026. The court has adjourned the matter to October 22, 2026.
