Without directly backing the Minister for the Federal Capital Territory on his building and donation of well furnished duplexes in Abuja, former Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, has revealed that when he was the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Lagos State, Judges were each given a four-bedroom flat, each, for life. They were also given a befitting car each which was replaced Every four years.
Professor Osinbajo served under the administration of the now President Bola Tinubu as Lagos State Governor.
“When I Was Lagos AG, We Gave Every Judge a Four-Bedroom House With BQ for Life and Cars”, he said.
Wike had come under very strong criticism by not a few Nigerians for building and giving Judges duplexes in Abuja.
The allegation was that the houses were meant to compromise the Judges.
But, apparently, Osinbajo thinks otherwise.
In a video shared by Channels Television, the former Vice President
recalled the welfare reforms introduced during his time as Lagos State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice.
They included, he said, lifetime residential homes and official cars for Judges.
The reforms introduced in 2001, he said, were to improve judicial welfare, appointments and discipline.
Each Judge, Osinbajo explained, received a four-bedroom house with boys’ quarters in locations such as Ikeja, Lekki or Ikoyi, alongside cars renewable every four years and medical support.
Corruption allegations against judicial officers, he said, were referred to the National Judicial Council (NJC), which recommendations the government implemented.
The reference to the NJC is the opposite of what transpired during the era of late President Muhammadu Buhari when Judges’ residences were raided by security operatives, arrested and hauled before Courts instead of referring the allegations against them to the NJC.
