Three leaders of the University of Cross River Students Union Government, SUG, have been reported among the dead in a fatal road crash.
The crash which occurred late evening of Friday May I, 2026 in Odukpani on the outskirts of the Calabar metropolis, also, resulted in many others sustaining varying degrees of injuries.
The SUG Director of Sports, Comrade Solomon Nya, and two others died on the spot.
The SUG President and others are said to be in a critical condition and presently receiving medical attention at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital Emergency Unit.
“The SUG President is in a critical condition. He is at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital Emergency Unit ,and we pray he makes it, because he is currently unconscious.
“This is a very sad and painful incident. We are praying that the SUG President survives because he was seriously injured”, a witness volunteered.
The witness also informed that other victims of the crash sustained serious injuries, with some limbs severed.
While the injured are being attended to at the hospital, the corpses of the three students union officials have been deposited in the mortuary.
As at the time of reporting, no formal statements has been issued by both security agencies and the authorities of the University.
