The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association MACBAN, has urged the authorities to urgently investigate the brutal killing of some herders in Jos South Local Council of Plateau state.
This is as it accused members of the Berom ethnic nationality of being behind the gruesome killings.
The Chairman of the Plateau State Chapter of MACBAN, Ibrahim Yusuf Babayo, while addressing the Media on Wednesday, July 1,2026 alleged that three herders – Haruna Hassan,30 ,Inusa Usman 34 ,and 34-year Ismaila Muhammad were ambushed, and killed by armed men, around the Gero-Rafin Bauna axis of Jos South Local Government at about 9 am , while on grazing activities in the area.
Babayo, while condemning the killing, also, described it as “unprovoked and unacceptable.”
He emphasized the urgent need for security agencies to swing into action, with a view to unraveling the actual circumstances surrounding the unfortunate incident ,as well as bringing those responsible to justice.
Chairman of MACBAN in Bassa Local Council of the State, Yau Idris, informed that while the attack and killings occurred early in the morning, it took several hours after to locate, and recover the mutilated bodies of the victims.
According to him, the corpses were deliberately concealed by the perpetrators, to make the task of discovery ,and recovery difficult.
“After they were killed, the perpetrators dumped the bodies in a bush and, also, hindered early search and recovery efforts by concerned MACBAN members.
“At first we tried, but residents blocked us from going where the corpses were dumped.
“Hours later, towards evening, we went back in search of the corpses. After a long search, we discovered the corpses in mutilated form.
“Their heads, and hands were cut off. There were machete cuts all over their bodies, with blood splattered everywhere”, Idris stated.
He alleged that the latest incident is coming just within two weeks after a similar one occurred, with about four herdsmen murdered ,and their bodies still missing.
But reacting, the spokesperson for the Berom Youth Moulders Association BYMA Rwang Tengwong described the allegations as not only false, but misleading and totally baseless.
“Available information indicates that the four deceased persons were among a heavily armed group of more than 40 attackers ,who invaded a mining site in Nyango, Gyel District, on 29th June 2026, opening fire on local miners, resulting in the death of three innocent.citizens while leaving two others with varying degrees of injuries.
“Faced with this unprovoked assault, local vigilante members from Gyel mobilised in defence of their communities and livelihoods .
“In the ensuing confrontation, four of the attackers were neutrallsed, while the rest escaped from the scene”, Tengwong noted
Neither the Police nor the Plateau State Government had commented on the incident as at the time of reporting.
