The Kebbi State Police Command on Friday August 14, 2026, said further investigation is still underway to establish the actual circumstances surrounding the alleged desecration of the Holy Qur’an by some suspects in Rafin Mose community in Zuru Local Council of the state.
This is as they appealed for calm among residents, cautioned against attempts to resort to self-help.
The Command, in a statement from its spokesperson Bashir Usman, said it has apprehended 29-year old Abubakar Musa over his alleged role in a ritual desecration of the Holy Qur’an, a development the Police fear could potentially endanger the peace and stability of the State.
According to the Police, Musa, in league with two others, Rabiu Tela ,and Hamza Zango, both of whom are at large, dug a pit inside a room belonging to one Zara Hassan, Tela’s wife, and buried a copy of the Holy Qur’an, together with semen, white and red kola nuts, underwear, dead animals and other fetish objects.
The police expressed the belief that the ritual practice was designed to make Zarau Hassan to be more respectful and submissive to her husband, Tela ,one of the suspects on the run.
The Police Command maintained that the incident which occurred at about 7:00 pm last Sunday, is capable of provoking religious sentiments among Muslim faithful ,as well as causing a breakdown of law and order if not controlled.
The Police statement further noted that while Musa has been kept in protective custody, concerted efforts are ongoing to track down his two fleeing accomplices .
This is as the State Commissioner of Police, Umar Hadejia, strongly condemned the action of the suspects, noting that it has the potential to undermine peace, religious harmony and stability of the state .
He, however, sued for calm among residents, warning against attempts by people to take the laws into their hands.
The Police assured that the suspects will be prosecuted immediately investigations are concluded.
