By Akinwale Kasali

Bishop David Oyedepo, founder of Living Faith Church Worldwide, otherwise known as Winners Chapel, has lamented the poor state of the economy and affairs of the nation.

Oyedepo said that the error committed by Nigerians who voted President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015 will never be repeated.

The Clergyman made this call during the first service in Canaan Land, Ota, the Church headquarters. He spoke on the  theme of the program ‘Covenant Day of Settlement’.

Oyedepo  lamented the poor state of affairs that has bedeviled Nigeria.

Prophesying, the Bishop said “The error this nation made in 2015 will never be repeated in Nigeria. The congregation responded with a thunderous “Amen” !

He added that: “Fulani vagabonds disrupting local people! They cut the neck of a Church leader. And they will say they don’t know anything about it? If nothing happens, God has not sent me!

“My God is turning the table against the wicked. Many will sleep and never wakeup. Many of them will cripple in three days.

“For the blood of the innocence they wasted, their generation will pay for it”.

It will be recalled, that Oyedepo had earlier warned the Church on their choice, saying they shouldn’t vote for President Buhari prior to the 2019 Presidential Election. He failed.

Ife and Modakeke

By Ayodele Oni

Few days after unknown gunmen unleashed terror in a village near Ile Ife in Osun state killing five persons, an early Sunday morning attack in Modakeke has sent five persons into their early grave.

The latest incident took place in Alapata, Torro area of Modakeke in the early hours of Sunday.

It was gathered that suspected armed men stormed Modakeke community and started shooting sporadically, leaving the five persons dead.

The armed men reportedly fled the community after the incident. Osun state Police Command is yet to react to the incident.

A community leader in Modakeke said “What has happened is worrisome. The five persons were killed on Sunday morning.

“There was no provocation. This was clearly a case of aggression not only against Modakeke but also against Ile Ife. We have been living in peace for many years.

“There is no justification for this violent attack on Modakeke.”

Leader of Vigilante at Ile Ife, Mr Victor Agunbiade, said the attackers appeared to be well trained.

“This is a clear message to instigate violence between Ife and Modakeke. We are not going to allow this to happen.

“The attackers killed five more people, the second time in two weeks. We are no fools. Some people are working hard to cause internal division among Yoruba people.

“Their strategy is to set Ife and Modakeke against each other again. We wont allow this. We are going to work hard to prevent any violence among the children of Oduduwa.”

According to him, Ife youths will meet with the hope of organising a meeting between Ife and Modakeke in order to come out with a common position.

Mr Agunbiade pointed out that those behind the first killing were yet to be identified by  security operatives.

The Ooni of Ife, His Imperial Majesty, Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi, had after the last incident met with Ogunsua of Modakeke with a view to nip in the bud any fresh hostility between the two communities.

Borno Clamps Down On Islamic Clerics Over Repentant Boko Haram Fighters

By Tosin Olatokunbo

The Borno State Government has banned public preaching in any part of the state in a deft move to stop Islamic clerics from inciting residents against its ongoing plan to resettle repentant Boko Haram fighters.

The development watchers of the state, said is likely to generate angry reactions from the predominantly Muslim state, but Governor Babagana Zulum, said he has directed security agencies to arrest violators.

According to the governor, the directive was necessary to forestall any reaction as a result of the way the government handled the issue of repentant Boko Haram members.

Hundreds of insurgents have abandoned their weapons and surrendered to troops in the last few weeks, as government battles with residents who are opposed to their reintegration back into the society.

Shehu of Borno and other prominent indigenes of the state, such as Senator Ali Ndume have criticized the government’s acceptance of returning Boko Haram members.

The government, obviously did not want the issue to degenerate after some Islamic clerics openly preached against the soft manner the repentant insurgents are being treated.

Zulum spoke during a stakeholders interactive meeting on the security situation of the state arising from the sudden surrender of hundreds of Boko Haram insurgents at the Government House on Sunday in Maiduguri.

He said the government cannot fold it’s arms because “If care is not taken, this will become a serious issue because I heard different preachers have started abusing each other.

“I heard they are abusing each other in their preaching. I have ordered the DSS to arrest all of them in the state. The Preaching Service Board has been given all the powers to regulate their activities.

“We shall never allow anybody to come into the state and begin to say things anyhow, be it Christian or Muslim. This is very important.

“The CAN should write to us, the Jama’atu Nasri Islam should also write to the Borno State Government and the Preaching Service Board with a view to creating access for them to preach. This is very important,” Zulum noted.

The governor said the government will press ahead in its plan to resettle the repentant Boko Haram fighters.

Zulum had at a recent meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari in Aso Rock, Presidential Villa, Abuja warned that the returning Boko Haram members may be forced to go back into the bush if they are rejected.

2023: Osinbajo’s Popularity Soars As Tinubu’s Health Fails

The more time Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress, APC spends abroad to take care of his failing health the more Vice President Yemi Osinbajo gains popularity among members of the party who wants him to succeed President Buhari.

Tinubu, a former Governor of Lagos state whose presidential ambition is no longer a secret, has been in London for weeks to take care of an undisclosed ailment, prompting suggestions that he is no longer fit for the job.

The APC leader has continued to receive guests, including President Buhari in London where he currently lives due to his health.

His condition has prompted some elements in the party to be seriously thinking of drafting Osinbajo, who in 2015 rode on Tinubu’s back to the position of the vice president.

Top sources in the APC said the push for Osinbajo’s candidature will further polarise the party, as Tinubu’s supporters would likely not accept the plan to sideline the former governor.

“The Lagos APC will not accept this. We believe that Osinbajo is fully on our side over the Tinubu’s president. Asiwaju is coming back soon, he’s the future of APC,” a local government chairman and consumate supporter of the former governor told the magazine in confidence, because he was not authorised to speak on the issue on Monday.

The number two citizen in the country has yet to declare his interest in the race, but his supporters are already doing the job for him.

Recently, his posters alongside Governor Ganduje of Kano state have dotted Abuja, the nation’s capital and other major cities in the country, a development many Nigerians said is an indication that the the former Commissioner for Justice under former Governor Bola Ahmed Tinubu of Lagos state, is interested in the top job.

This school of thought may not be wrong, following efforts by some politicians in the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC to install him as the party’s presidential candidate in 2023.

The politicians under the aegis of the Proogressive Consolidation Group, PCG said Osinbajo is the best candidate to succeed Buhari.

The group who has been meeting stakeholders in the party, including APC governors, had met with Governor Bello Masari of Katsina state to press for Osinbajo’s candidature.

It has also met with the Emir of Daura, over its goal to push for Osinbajo’s presidency.

Aliyu Rabiu Kurdish, the chairman of the group said it has made great strides in the quest to install Osinbajo president in 2023, adding that it will be in the interest CV of the country for the vice president to succeed his boss.

“Every passing day, we see further indications of success in our mobilization and advocacy efforts towards ensuring that Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo succeeds President Muhammadu Buhari and sustains our party, APC’s progressive ideals.

“We deeply appreciate the warmth and hospitality offered by the people and government of Katsina state during our visit to Government House, Katsina last Friday as well as our visit to His Royal Majesty, the Emir of Daura, Alhaji Faruk Umar Faruk last Saturday.

“We assure all true Progressives and members of the APC in Nigeria and abroad that at the government house, at the Palace and in our strategic meetings with various stakeholders drawn from all the local government areas of Katsina state, our concerns for stability, unity, peace and progress of Nigeria profoundly resonate.

“Looking at the extant developmental challenges that the country is contending with, it is only wise for the party to choose a most qualified and most acceptable candidate to sustain and improve on the positive gains, achievements and legacies of President Muhammadu Buhari.

“It is in view of this development that we at the PCG feel convinced that an Osinbajo presidency in 2023 will bring down tension, facilitate stability and accelerate further progress in all sectors of the economy.”

Meanwhile, the Speaker of the Lagos state House of Assembly, Mudasiru Obasa and other members in the assembly have visited the former governor where he’s said to be recuperating.

Insecurity: Abuja Imam Says Allah Will Punish Buhari

The Chief Imam of Apo Legislative Quarters Mosque, Sheikh Nuru Khalid, has lashed out at President Muhammadu Buhari for allowing bandits to control a part of Nigeria.

Buhari has been under fire from prominent Nigerians in the manner he has handled insecurity in the country.

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state has faulted the president in the manner he has handled the farmers/ herders crisis. While Transport Minister, Rotimi Ameachi has warned that bandits will take over Abuja, the nation’s capital, if the government failed to tackle the many social problems plaguing the country.

On his own part, the Iman, in a viral video, said God will punish  Buhari if he failed to rein in bandits who have been kidnapping school children and others in Northern part of the country.

The cleric while while addressing worshippers during his Friday sermon, said the president must ensure that he ended the menace before leaving power.

He said, “Go and tell the president that under his government some group of people are issuing threats to local communities, demanding that they be paid some amounts of money or face attack.

“And they would gather the money and announce publicly on the BBC that they (bandits) would be paid this Friday [to avoid attack].

“Tell the president that there is a country we pay allegiance to, and there is a part of the country we do not know, which is governed by bandits.

“The president should either return the country as one nation where bandits are not killing people anyhow — just the way he took over, or Allah (God) will deal with him.

“This is the message. I’m saying this in an open forum, and it is live-streamed for the world to see. I take responsibility for my words, and I’m ready to face whatever consequences for preaching peace and unity of Nigeria.

“Mr President, we don’t want to hear the reports of killing of people under your watch. We don’t want to hear reports of cowardice among our soldiers, such that they are attacked at their base.

“We have a video where you said Nigerian soldiers had the patriotism, training, discipline to tackle all manner of criminality in the country. You said if you were elected, you will give them the required support to tackle insurgency in a short period of time.

“Your Excellency, a promise made is a promise kept. If you lack the advisers to remind you about this, we are ready to tell you. We are praying to God to help you fulfil this promise if really you are willing.”

Nigerians woke up on Saturday to a cloned edition of ThisDay, with a lead story where Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, asked Imo Girls to marry Fulani Herdsmen in the State, promising to foot the bill of the wedding. He was also quoted to have placed a fine of One Million Naira on any parent who rejected such marriage.

In a statement dated August 28, 2021, and signed by its Managing Director, Eniola Bello, the ThisDay Management condemned the criminal act in very strong terms, saying it never had such a story on any of its editions.

It reads:

PRESS STATEMENT

“The attention of the Management of THISDAY has been drawn to a fake version of our digital edition making the rounds on some social media platforms.

With the headline: “Shocking: Uzodinma declares Free Marriage Between Fulani Settlers and Imo Ladies”, this fake version of our digital edition is being circulated on WhatsApp, Facebook and other social media platforms.

“We wish to state that THISDAY at no time published the said story. Our lead story on Friday, August 27 was, “Buhari Elated as NNPC Breaks Jinx, Declares N287bn Profit, First in 44 Years”.

“Sadly, these merchants of fake news have chosen to leverage on the credibility and integrity of THISDAY to ply their trade.

“We completely reject this poor attempt by some unscrupulous people at impersonating our brand and identity in pursuit of whatever agenda they may have, by seeking to disseminate fake news to members of the public as emanating from THISDAY.

“For the avoidance of doubt, readers can easily verify our Friday publication from the print edition, or online (www.thisdaylive.com). We, therefore, call on members of the public who may have unwittingly fallen for the cloned digital copy to disregard it and treat it with the utmost contempt it deserves.

“We also use this opportunity to call on security agencies to help unmask the counterfeiters behind this forgery and bring them to book.”

“Cloned THISDAY Publication On Uzodimma: Hand Work Of Desperate Elements” – IMSG

0
ThisDay Publication on Uzodimma

The Media Office of Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, has reacted to a fabricated mischief meant to deceive the people, purported to be the lead front page story of ThisDay Newspaper of Friday, August 27.

In the childish, cloned, front page lead story, the Governor was quoted as asking Imo girls to marry Fulani Herdsmen, promising he would sponsor such marriages. He was, also, said to have imposed a fine to the tune of One Million Naira, on any parent who would be against such a relationship.

The story, which had since gone viral, is not only fake, a product of a deceased mind, but meant to embarrass the Governor,  and demarket the ThisDay Newspaper brand.

A Press Release signed by the Governor’s Media Adviser/Chief Press Secretary, Oguwike Nwachuku, attributed the mischief to desperate politicians who would stoop so low to clone the front page of a National newspaper without a thought to the implications.

The release reads:

“Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has nothing to do with the purported report on a cloned publication of THISDAY of Friday, August 27, 2021 with headline: Shocking: Uzodimma Declares Free Marriage Between Fulani Settlers and Imo Ladies …Promises to pay bride price for herders who choose to marry Imo ladies… Imposes N1m fine to any father who refuses to give consent.

“The originators of the fake publication had two things in mind: to tarnish the image of the Governor, and to destroy the credibility of THISDAY as a brand.

“The ill conceived publication shows how desperate individuals and groups can get in trying to destroy the society, thinking that Governor Uzodimma is the issue.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the real headline of THISDAY the same Friday, August 27 reads:  Buhari Elated as NNPC Breaks Jinx,  Declares N287bn Profit First In 44 Years.

“It is pertinent to note that THISDAY Management confirmed that the publication was cloned and we are confident that they will not allow their hard earned brand and efforts of many years to be bastardised by criminal minded fellows.

“Governor Uzodimma is conscious of the efforts being made by some individuals and groups to tarnish his image and discredit his government but will not be deterred in his determination to provide good governance to the good people of Imo State.

“He is mindful of the enormity of work to do in Imo State after many years of neglect of critical infrastructure due to poor governance, and will stop at nothing to change the narrative for good in the interest of the people.

“The public is, therefore, advised to disregard the cloned publication as coming from depraved minds and enemies of the people and the society.”

Since the advent of Uzodimma as Governor, Imo State has been notorious for fabricated Press Releases in the name of the State Government.  But the cloning of the front page of a National Newspaper is a new low.

Such cloning of News magazines’ covers by Government agents was last witnessed during the late General Sani Abacha’s Regime.
