Pastor Bakare Clears Air On Rift With Bishop Oyedepo

Tunde Bakare

By Akinwale Kasali

Founder, and General Overseer of Citadel Global Community Church, popularly known as Latter Rain Assembly, Tunde Bakare, has cleared the air on his alleged rift with the founder of Living Faith  Church Worldwide, also known as Winners Chapel, Bishop David Oyedepo.

Bakare, in an interview with Sam Omatseye, during a Television Continental, TVC, Programme, tagged, ‘The Big Talk’, on Saturday 28th August, 2021, said he is no enemy of Oyedepo, although they share different doctrines and beliefs.

The former Vice Presidential Candidate of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, said he has a good and cordial relationship with fellow Pentecostal Pastors in the country.

“Oyedepo and I are contemporaries. We were born in the same year,” he said.

“Oyedepo was born in August, 1954, and I was born in September. We are contemporaries, God has really blessed him and used him.

“We have differences in doctrines, what we believe, but that does not make us enemies,” he said.

Bakare went down memory lane and spoke on how he and Oyedepo were on a plane one time and another brother was coming over to greet him, but on seeing them together, he froze.

“There is (a) difference between issues and persons. We can defend the Gospel but those who do not and destroy it will die before their time. I have nothing personal against any man of God but I will always defend the truth that I know and I will always make it plain.”

Speaking on his differences with Oyedepo, the renowned Clergyman said the Gospel and truth are one but when someone “begins to twist the truth to make it funny,” he will speak out.

“It is a true friend that speaks true to his friend. Mantras will die before their time.

“When you speak truth, eventually when the truth begins to rule, there will be no element of falsehood,” he said.

Bakare also referenced an incident where he tore a book written by Oyedepo in the open and when he was confronted, he said the book was full of errors.

“How can someone say the anointing oil is not a symbol of the Holy Spirit? It is the release of God in the bottle. If it is told to few people so, it is okay. If anointing oil is the Holy Spirit, then Jesus is a lamb walking on four legs. They are symbols, and symbols are not as important,” he said.

Speaking about politics in Nigeria, corruption and other national matters, he said Nigeria cannot stem the tide of corruption until the sons emerge and to tell Churches not to do what they are doing, is calling for a blackout.

The Clergyman said there are different types of Churches including the compromising Church, the corrupt Church and the lukewarm Church, but it is important not to confuse the crowd with the Church.

He added that he is not a controversial Pastor and the controversies are not by him but engineered by God.

Bakare went further to air his view about the purchasing of Private Jets by Pastors, especially by his perceived enemy and contemporary. He said, “By the way, when he makes noise about his private jet of a thing, do you know that I once acquired a 1707 with the logo of our church on it? Are you aware of that? But we use it for business. I don’t buy a plane to be spending money on it, that I can jump quickly on another and pay little money to where I’m going.

“We can afford it; we are not envious of them at all,” he added.

The former Muslim turned Christian said Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Church of Christ, signed his wedding certificate as his father and he built his first house on the camp ground being a favoured son.

“It is only bastards that use (the) left hand to point to the house of his father,” he said.

He added that he was at Deeper Life Church for about five years before he went to the Redeemed Church.

“I don’t call those men my colleagues. They are my fathers,” he said, speaking of Adeboye and William Kumuyi of the Deeper Life Bible Church.

Hisbah Police Says It Reports Wealthy People To God, Punishes The Poor

Kano State Hisbah Board has admitted that it cherry-picks while applying Shari law on the citizens of the state. The Islamic police has been trenchantly criticized for applying the Islamic law on the poor while the rich in the society are never apprehended nor punished for breaking the law.

During the recent wedding Fathia of president Muhammadu Buhari’s son, Yusuf in Kano, many Nigerians had demanded that his bride, Zarah Ado Bayero be arrested and punished by Hisbah Police, for wearing an “unIslamic dress during the ceremony.

A Sharia court sitting Kano state had earlier in the week, sentenced Kannywood actress and blogger, Sadiya Haruna, to six months in Islamic school for “uploading sexual contents on her social media handles.”

Yusuf’s bride and her guests also shared and uploaded contents, including guests at the party dancing to the vulgar song of Naira Marley, which are deemed to be against Islamic religion on various social media platforms. But nothing has happened to her.

The Hisbah Board’s Director, Dr. Aliyu Musa Aliyu Kibiya, while speaking with a Kano based Freedom Radio, said the board is very careful when handling matters relating to the rich, adding that such matters will be referred to ‘Allah’ to judge.

Kibiya said, “We see things differently. If a leader errs it is against the teaching of Islam for us to go to the mosque and publicise it.”

“We have ways to reach out to leaders and preach to them, and our job is to deliver a message, but it is Allah that guides,” he said, adding that, “the way and manner in which you will call reprimand a common man and a leader differs.”

On his part the Commander General of the Board, Sheikh Muhammad Haruna Ibn Sina, argued that his organisation on different accounts had arrested the children of very influential people in the state. The Board is yet to publicise the names of wealthy people it has punished for breaking the Sharia law.

Soyinka Demands Igboho’s Immediate Release

By James Orji

Professor Wole Soyinka says the government of the Republic of Benin has no reason to continue to keep Sunday Adeyemo, aka Sunday Igboho in prison in perpetuity.

The Yoruba Nation activist has been in prison in the West African nation where he’s standing trial over immigration related issues.

He was arrested last month by immigration officials while he was trying to flee to Germany alongside his wife. The embattled activist had been declared wanted by the Department of State Services, DSS in Nigeria over his secessionist agitation and allege gun running.

Prominent South West leaders have demanded his unconditional release by the Beninois authority.

Speaking with journalists in Lagos on Friday during an interactive session titled, “Sanctions on the loose: Chasing the gnat with a sledgehammer,” the Nobel Laureate said the activist committed no crime.

Soyinka stated, “He is against Fulani herdsmen tyranny and threw out criminal herdsmen terrorising his neighbourhood.  That’s his real crime. I refuse to accept that Igboho is being chased because he peacefully demonstrated his position vis-a-vis the destiny of this nation which is a fundamental human right of anybody.

“Somebody called for secession or a separate state, I don’t consider that (a criminal act) and nowhere is that declared a criminal act as long as it’s done peacefully and collectively within the law. You don’t criminalise the action and in addition commit a criminal act against such an individual.

“That was what the security services did by raiding Igboho’s home at 2am, killing two of his people and claiming, without a warrant or anything, that they found weapons in his house. Who is going to believe that cock and bull story?

“This is an appeal to the government of the Republic of Benin. Why are you keeping the victim in your prison? What crime did he commit against your state that you are holding him in prison, instead of letting him continue his journey? Igboho has not committed any crime against any known law in this nation. Thus, to ask for his repatriation is adding insult to injury.

You invaded his house, destroyed his property, chased him into the wilderness and you are pursuing him. We ask the government of the Republic of Benin to release the man to continue his business which was interrupted unjustly.  Please, rectify this error and don’t compound t any further by holding Sunday Igboho in prison one day long,’ Soyinka said.

Uche Secondus

By James Orji

For the second time in less than two weeks, another court has stopped the National Chairman of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, Uche Secondus from assuming his position, thus worsening the protracted crisis in the party.

The embattled chairman was restored back to his position on Friday by a High court in Kebbi state. He was supposed to preside over the National Executive Council Meeting, NEC of the party on Saturday, before a counter order was issued by a Calabar, Cross Rivers High Court.

Justice Edem Kooffreh, a vacation judge in Cross Rivers upheld the order by the Rivers High Court. He gave the order on Friday, while ruling on a motion ex parte marked HC/240/2021 which was filed by Enang Wani.

Justice Kooffresh while ruling on the matter issued an order banning Secondus from resuming or visiting the party’s office as chairman.

“An order of interim injunction restraining the second defendant, its members, officers and agents from recognising the first defendant as its national chairman or from according him any of the powers, rights or privileges due to the holder of the office of the national chairman of the 2nd defendant pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice,” the judge said.

Group Accuses Buhari Of Ethnic Profiling, Cleansing Through Utterances

0
President Buhari of Nigeria

By Akinwale Kasali

The Eminent Elders Forum, EEF, comprising of very top ranking senior citizens that have transversed all spheres of human endeavours has alleged  President Muhammadu Buhari is a promoter of ethnic profiling that has plunged the nation into disarray.

The Group says it is, apolitical, non-religious, non tribal/ethnic, non racial and a non discriminatory body which membership is  over 300, and cuts across the nation.

At a three-day virtual Meeting/Discussion – 8th-11th August, 2021- on the topical national issues of Ethnic Profiling, Ethnic Cleansing, Dispossession of Indigenous Ancestral Lands by Foreign Invaders and the Heightened Separatists Agitations Across The Country Nigeria, the Group said that  the President Buhari administration is largely responsible for the ethnic profiling of the Fulanis through his utterances and actions particularly since he came into power  in 2015.

Going down memory lane, the Group pointed out that in Cairo, Egypt, during the African Union Summit in 2018, President Buhari gave free entry into Nigeria to foreign Fulanis from all over the continent. These, the Group said are the same Fulanis who on arrival to Nigeria occupied the forests all over the country, from late 2019 through 2020, during the lock down occasioned by the ravaging Pandemic – COVID-19.

It also added that no sooner did these foreign Fulanis occupy the forests, that there was all manners of killings, kidnappings, destruction of farmlands and properties escalated across the nation.

In the communique issued after the three day  deliberations, the Group alleged that an ethnic group associated with the current President of Nigeria has been fingered in the various odd happenings in Nigeria presently.

Information, the members said have filtered through talks by eminent persons that confirm the unfortunate involvement of that ethnic group in the mayhem plaguing the country.

It also stressed that by virtue of the age old occupation of the Fulanis as cattle herders, the Fulanis under Miyetti Allah cattle breeders association believed they owned grazing routes in all parts of the Federation and therefore are entitled to possess, by force of arms, these routes for the grazing of their cattle.

And that migrating with their cattle causes confrontation with indigenous land owners. However, the magnanimity to accommodate the roving band or nomadic people shouldn’t translate to abrogation of traditional rights of land ownership.

In the communique signed by Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife, the Group’s Steering Committee, Alhaji Shehu Shagari, the Group Alternate Chairman and nine others, the Group called for a  rebirth that would bring the nation out of the woods.

As regards the ethnic cleansing, the group said that a lot has been said about the killings and destruction of properties and total disregard to the sanctity of lives in Nigeria, but there are factors that showed clearly that the current killings have pogromic and ethnic cleansing intents, which are meticulously planned and systematically executed with the support of the  Leadership.

It also said that “some Fulanis have nursed the ambition of conquest of Nigeria which they also believe is naturally endowed to them. This has been demonstrated by the Feudal Fulani Leadership, the ruling class in the North as represented by Sir Ahmadu Bello, the Sardauna of Sokoto in the sixties. What we have today in respect of the killings and ethnic cleansing in the Middle Belt, South East, South South and South West is a deepened effort to perpetuate the whims and caprices of some Fulani Feudal Machine.

“This is also demonstrated in the thinking and actions of the present Government headed by Major-General Mohammadu Buhari, a Fulani man. That Major-General Muhammadu Buhari considers himself the Madhi i.e. Messiah of Islam in Nigeria and therefore seems to be in full support of whatever will deny the rest of Nigerians their lives in order to make the Fulanis the Feudal Lords in Nigeria and for Nigeria to become a full-fledged Islamic.

“This has been on for sometime but since 2013, it became an open secret that escalated to full invasion and occupation by foreign Fulanis with the silent and subterranean support of the present Government Major-General Muhammadu Buhari’s regime.

“This is evident in Borno, Plateau, Kaduna, Benue and most recently in Niger and Ebonyi States among others.

The current Government of Kaduna State should be held responsible for the ongoing pogrom/genocide and destruction/ sacking of the settlements in southern Kaduna.

“It is generally believed that whatever we are witnessing today as a Nation was as a result of the foundation laid by the Major-General Muhammadu Buhari’s administration. He seems to have sustained the process through the negative instrumentality of the use of executive powers. It is his body language and silence which demonstrated in no small measure his approval of the massacre and ethnic cleansing in Kaduna, Middle Belt, South East and South West.

“The President has never openly condemned these killings, neither has the perpetrators been brought to book or prosecuted in any Court of law”.

The Group spoke about the Heightened Separatists Agitations Across The Country, saying that it is a direct consequence of the prevailing situation of perceived injustice, lack of security of lives and properties, nepotism and religious bigotry.

Though agitations for restructuring have been on the front burner since the late General Sani Abacha days, the demand for separation has now spread beyond South East and South West and now includes the Middle Belt and minority groups within North East and North West.

Stressing further, it pointed out that in some parts of the Middle Belt and Kaduna, indigenous land owners were wiped out by the criminal Fulani herdsmen/terrorists, who renamed ancestral villages and took over their lands. They renamed the indigenous ancestral places and even appointed administrators over the seized Areas.

“The heightened separatist agitations have assumed unprecedented dimensions in Nigeria, first in period immediately preceding and during the civil war from 1967, and now during the Buhari led administration.

“Nigerians are no longer one, but many. Enmity has taken over in the midst of distrust, injustice, unfairness, zero-someness, winner-takes-all, breakdown of values, institution of mediocrity, ethnic bigotry, feudalism etc.

Such tense environment of insecurity and threat of pogrom and ethnic based massacre which is the body language of some leaders have heightened the call for separation.

“President Buhari is largely responsible for the ethnic profiling of the Fulanis through his utterances and actions particularly since he came into governance again in 2015.

“The main terrorist groups, whether they are called Bandits, herdsmen and/or kidnappers are mainly Fulanis, especially the Fulani mercenaries from Libya, Mali, Niger and Chad which this Major-General Muhammadu Buhari’s regime seems to have facilitated easy access to Nigeria through highly compromised national institutions.

“The early Fulani cattle-herders we knew pre- Major-General Muhammadu Buhari’s regime, did not carry AK47 to pasture their cattle.

“The influx of these murderous Fulani invaders started when the APC, the political party of Major-General Muhammadu Buhari, brought them to participate as agent provocateur in the 2015 election to enure that Major-General Muhammadu Buhari emerged as President of Nigeria.

“Buhari attended AU summit in Egypt three years ago where he made a public pronouncement to grant Fulanis from all over African continent free and unfettered access into Nigeria. This he did without recourse to and/or approval from the National Assembly.

Now the same Fulani mercenaries are occupying the forests all over the country.

“This absurdity was surreptitiously and especially accelerated from early 2020 when Nigeria was expected to be under the pandemic COVID-19 lockdown.

“The ethnic cleansing and dispossession of indigenous ancestral lands by the Fulanis especially the aided foreign Fulanis said to be invited into the country by Mr. president’s political party has been ongoing in the last 6 years and has recently escalated to full blown invasion with the silence of the Government in power. This is evident in Plateau, Kaduna, Benue and most recently Niger States among others.

“The present  Government of Kaduna State should be held responsible for the ongoing pogrom in Kaduna. Mallam El-Rufai, the current Governor of Kaduna State, like Major-General Muhammadu Buhari are both Fulanis perceived to be using their official positions to further a supposedly clandestine Fulani agenda”.

The Group  demanded that the President Buhari should change his attitude, utterances and his style of governance.

It also called on the All Progressives Congress, APC, led government to have respect for the rule of law, justice and fairness to all, and also respect the spirit of Federal character in all appointments into Federal executive positions.

It added that the armed forces should be more pro-active to stop the killings, abductions, kidnapping and banditry; flush out the foreign invaders from Nigeria territorial space and restore security of lives and properties of citizens across the countries Nigeria and the immediate replacement of  the 1999 constitution (not Amendment) with the 1963 constitution with amendments to reflect today’s realities in Nigeria.

Its other demands include;

Restoration of peace to all occupied land in all the States, rehabilitate and settle all the displaced people in the IDPS back into their homes and ancestral lands.

Remembering our first National Anthem at Independence:

Nigeria we hail thee, our own dear native land, though tribe and tongue may differ, in brotherhood we stand etc.

The last verse “ O God of all creation, grant this our one request, help us to build a nation where no man is oppressed and so with peace and plenty Nigeria may be blessed.

The first National Anthem was the spirit that prevailed across the country. We say with all sense of responsibility that, if we cannot re-enact such spirit in this nation called Nigeria, then without mincing words: to thy various tents oh Nigerians becomes a sine qua non.

We can part in peace to allow each ethnic groups/nationalities to develop and manage their affairs at their own pace.

JUSTICE, equity and fairness must return to our polity (society) in all RECRUITMENTS/APPOINTMENTS particularly into various Federal Government Ministries, Agencies and Parastatals among others.

APPROPRIATE application and respect for the law.

PROPER handling and prosecution of reported cases of attacks and killings in the communities across the country

THE solution is either: total mutual disintegration or deliberate restructuring of Nigeria in line with the vision of the founding leaders of Nigeria.

We would rather prefer the latter to avoid the former.

TO find a way out of the quagmire, we will need to do the followings:

(i).  ACCEPT that there is a deep-rooted problem plaguing the nation and accept faults where necessary and make amends.

(ii). AGREE that Nigerian people have the right to determine if and how they want to continue to live and be governed

PUT in place a constitution drafting committee that will consult across the country to draft a people’s constitution that must be subjected to a referendum.

EQUITY, Fairness and Justice must be the norm and not the exception that it is today.

ETHNIC cleansing are grave breaches of the 1949 Geneva conventions and 1977 additional protocols and must be stopped forthwith.

NIGERIANS especially those aggrieved by the present obnoxious governance system should team up and exercise their electoral franchise to ensure that no person known to be grossly biased ethnically or a religious fanatic should ever occupy to any political and/or administrative office in Nigeria going forward.

THE issue of religion(s) should be separated and distinct from State affairs.

The government has no business in religious affairs.

Nigeria is a secular state and should be seen to be secular in all ramifications of governance in the country.

PREVENT the present administrations both at federal and state levels by all reasonable and lawful means from causing further collateral damages in the remaining tenure of their administration.

TOTAL Restructuring on the basis of the 2014 national confab resolutions or as may be reasonably modified.

REPEAL the 1999 constitution and re-introduce the 1963 constitution with necessary amendments to reflect today’s realities in Nigeria.

Mixed Reactions Trail Deaths In Nollywood

Prince Ifeanyi Dike

By Akinwale Kasali

Few hours after the news of the death of Tinsel star, Victor Olaotan, another Nollywood actor and pioneer member of the Board of Directors of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, AGN, Prince Ifeanyi Dike, died after long battle with Kidney failure.

The Imo State born-actor had been battling with kidney failure for years until former Governor Babatunde Fashola came to his aid; leading to a surgery in India.

Though the surgery was successful,  his life was never the same until he passed on Friday.

This is a heavy blow to the Nollywood industry which is yet to come to terms with the many deaths it has experienced recently.

Reactions have  trailed the deaths in the Make-believe industry, with some people calling for a spiritual cleansing of the industry, while calling on the actors to have a well planned good lifestyle.

For Femi Oluwatosin, a lover of the industry, he believes that the poor and wayward lifestyle of the actors are  the problems they are battling with, leading to their early and sudden demise.

“They don’t take care of themselves. I doubt if there is any healthcare insurance or facilities in place for them. This is the major problem.

“Some of them live wayward lifestyle. They drink, smoke and do drugs indiscriminately leading to them having all these ailment. To avert such occurrences, all this aforementioned need to be put in place”.

For Chinelo Uchegbulam, she is of the opinion that the industry needs to move closer to God and choose a day they will all come together and have a National day of prayer.

“This is so sad. Seven deaths within a month is strange. They need spiritual cleansing in the industry. The type of films they do unravel and expose occultic kingdoms, which will in turn affect them. They need to pray fervently and move closer to God.

Michael Akeju, a Presenter and Stand Up Comedian says that it is glaring that evil forces are trying to disorganize the industry with deaths and put fear into the minds of the actors.

He said the industry needs prayers from all Nigerians because their movies have impacted our lives positively in one way or the other, stressing that the insult needs prayers from all quarters.

“This industry needs prayers. This one death too many”, he said.

Group Calls On Southern Governors To Reject Petroleum Bill Act, Reads Riot Act

Dr Banji Akintoye

By Akinwale Kasali

A Group under the aegis of Nigerian Indigenous Nationalities Alliance for Self-Determination, NINAS, has called on the 17 Southern Governors to unanimously reject the recently assented Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) by President Muhammadu Buhari or face “never-seen-before mass action”.

The Chairman of the Group, Prof. Banji Akintoye, in a statement issued  on Friday August 27th, 2021, described the PIA as “a gargantuan move by some vested interest in the core north to permanently hijack the assets of the indigenous people of the southern territory of Nigeria”.

NINAS said it would apply the instrumentalities of the law and intellectualism to repel the act.

It also called on the Southern Governors to reject the move by the President to review 368 grazing sites in 25 states across the country, saying the Federal Government did not own any land upon which it could establish grazing routes.

The statement, titled ‘Governors in the Southern Region that welcome FG’s Grazing Reserves Should Prepare For a Never-Seen-Before Mass Action’ was made available to journalists by Akintoye’s Communications Manager, Maxwell Adeleye.

The statement reads, “For the sake of clarity, the much-publicised PIA allocated three per cent of total oil revenue to oil-producing communities in the Niger Delta region of Delta, Imo, Abia, Edo, Ondo, Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Bayelsa with massive environmental degradation and health hazard while 30 per cent of the total oil revenue was allocated to the northern states under the guise of funding oil exploration in frontier basins such as Sokoto, Jigawa, Katsina, Kebbi, Zamfara, Bauchi, etc.

“The economic implication of this act is that 30 per cent of the profit accrued from oil revenue explored from the South will be given to the northern states for oil search that may never be found till eternity.

“With these funds, we can now say without any fear or favour that some states mentioned above that contribute little or nothing to the country’s Gross Domestic Product and generate almost zero Value Added Tax to the federation account would now be more financially buoyant than oil producing states through the fraudulent PIA.

“Thus, we enjoin the Southern Governors’ Forum and other leaders within the alliance territory to reject this gross attempt to use the wealth of the South to feed the North.

“We also urge governors within the NINAS territory to respect the wishes of their people on the issue of the grazing reserves being planned by the central government for Fulani herdsmen.

“For the avoidance of doubt, under the Land Use Act of 1978, all lands in Nigeria are vested in state governors who hold the same in trust for the people. With the possible exception of the Federal Capital Territory, the Federal Government of Nigeria does not own any land upon which it can establish grazing routes.

“It follows that any governor in the alliance territories who cedes any land to the Federal Government in the name of grazing route will be doing so in breach of the trust in which such lands are held and worse still, in defiance of the overwhelming will of the people.

“We say with all sense of modesty and responsibility that the grazing route is an attempt towards grabbing our ancestral land through the back door which must be rejected by all means necessary.

“This is not a threat, but a piece of advice – any governor who cedes our land to the central government for Fulani herdsmen’s grazing reserve should be ready to face the wrath of the people.”

Ronaldo Returns To Manchester United

Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo stunned the world by making a return  to English Premier League side, Manchester United.

Ronaldo had been linked to different Clubs  this transfer summer, with many believing he will follow rival, Lionel Messi to the French Capital Club, Paris Saint Germain Football Club, while others linked him to Manchester rival, Manchester City.

Interestingly, the Portuguese legend, decided to join Manchester United and reunite with the Club he won his first UEFA Champions League with back in 2008.

Manchester United has announced it is re-signing Cristiano Ronaldo from Juventus.

Ronaldo was pictured touching down in Lisbon where he will soon be undertaking medicals to seal a sensational return to his former club Manchester United.

With a surge of fans and photographers eager to get a glimpse of Ronaldo at the airport, the Portuguese superstar had given a cryptic clue while getting into a car and told broadcasters TVI24 when asked of his next club: “You’ll know in one hour.”

Not long after, United informed supporters via social media and their official website that a deal had been agreed and Ronaldo would be returning to the club ahead of transfer deadline day.

The 36-year-old will now have a medical in Lisbon as talks continue. Reports in Italy suggest United will pay Juve the £21.4million fee they wanted from City, with a two-year contract on the table for Ronaldo of around £480,000 per week.

Imo Government urges oil marketers to end strike

0
Hope Uzodimma

Imo State Government has urged striking oil marketers and tanker drivers to suspend their actions and follow due process in the resolution of the conflict.

It reiterated its earlier position that the strike is illegal since the contentious matter of judgment debt is before the Appeal Court.

The Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Hon Declan Emelumba, said although what the oil marketers are doing amounted to blackmail and economic sabotage, Government has reached out to them to ensure that the strike is called off.

“We have initiated talks with them.  But it is important for Nigerians to know that the matter for which they started this strike is still in court. In the eyes of the law, the strike is illegal”, the commissioner averred.

He disclosed that although the judgment which was obtained by a private firm Sunaz oil nig Ltd against Timik consult Ltd and Imo state government was done without the knowledge and legal representation from the government, it has not discountenanced it.

” It is instructive here that when the Okorocha administration demolished the petrol station, the marketers restrained themselves from taking the law into their hands by not embarking on any illegal action. Instead the affected dealer went to court, suggesting that the marketers believe in the rule of law. It is therefore surprising that the same people do not want the law to take its full course by embarking on an illegal action when the matter is still pending in the court of appeal “the Commissioner noted.

According to him, what Government did was simply to appeal the judgment to enable it understand fully what was involved since it was the administration of Rochas Okorocha that carried out the act under consideration.

Emelumba said the Government has since informed the oil marketers that it will not hesitate to pay the judgment debt if the appeal is ruled against it.

He accused the Sunaz Oil Nig. Ltd of taking undue advantage of his relationship with tanker drivers to drag them into a purely private matter that has nothing to do with tanker drivers.

The Commissioner regretted that the filling station which obtained the judgment is yet to start the process of execution before the oil marketers embarked upon strike.
