APC Boss: Nigerians Are Joining Our Party Because PDP, Others Are Dead

0
APC Chairman Yilwada

National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has justified the mass defection into the party, saying other political parties are dying. He also said the management of the APC appears to be appealing to Nigerians who are now pitching their tent with the party.

Prof. Yilwatda spoke on Sunday during a Townhall meeting on the 2026 Electoral Act. The Act was recently passed by the National Assembly and has been assented to by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, even though controversy remains over the provision in the Act on the manner election results should be announced.

The magazine reports that the APC has welcome more members into the party recently, particularity opposition state governors, the latest being the Governor of Adamawa state, Ahmadu Fintiri who defected to the party last week.

Critics of the ruling party insist that the plan is to emasculate the opposition and tuen the country into a one-party state.

According to Prof Yilwatda, APC has attracted more membership because it’s more organised in terms of mobilisation and coordination.

He said “It is very fair” for the party to gain more membership  because Nigerians have discovered that other political parties are already dying.

“They saw a reason to join us because of how we operate as a party—from party management to organization and mobilization,” Yilwatda said yesterday .

“APC seems to be the best party in terms of mobilization, organization, and governance. That provides a leeway for competition. When I go to the market, I have a choice to make: a choice between good governance, good party management, and a transparent system.

“I will give you an example. We have a primary solution where, through consensus, all nine candidates in Osun agreed on a single candidate. No other political party in Nigeria has achieved a consensus like that without ending up in court. Only APC has successfully done that in two states.”

President Tinubu had recently taken a swipe at the leadership of some political parities in the country who accused him of plans  to turn the country into a one-party, accusing them of  failure to make their parties attractive to Nigerians to join.

The president expressed excitement over the defections of opposition politicians into the ruling APC, saying his party was ready to sweep opposition political parties such as the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, African Democratic Congress, ADC, Labour Party, LP totally out of the way ahead the next general elections in the country in 2027.

Tinubu: “I just need to tell those who say a one-party system is no good. It is one party ruling, driving the aspirations of Nigerians. You don’t blame a people bailing out of a sinking ship when they have no life jackets.

“I’m glad for what we have, and I’m expecting more to come. That is the game. Welcome to progress; sweep them clean.”

INEC Boss Promises ‘Best’ Election In 2027; Opposition Leaders Remain Skeptical

INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan
INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan.

Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof. Joash Amupitan, says Nigerians should not be worried over next year’s election, saying it will the best elections to be conducted in the country.

The INEC chairman spoke on Sunday in Abuja, the nation’s capital during the Citizens Townhall meeting on the 2026 Electoral Act.

Prof Amupitan’s remark comes on the backdrop of doubts among some opposition leaders in the country, of his capacity to conduct a credible election for the country next year. Some INEC critics cited the recently conducted Council elections in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, which they claimed fell below expectations.

INEC’s declaration of the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress, APC,  as the winner of the majority of Chairmanship and councilors positions have been rejected by the opposition parties.

For instance, Prof. Chidi Odinkalu, a former Executive Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission, NHRC, had in his reaction to the  recent FCT Council elections said the INEC boss cannot be trusted to conduct a free, fair and credible election for the country in 2027.

He said the Commission failed to redeem its image among Nigerians during the FCT election, where the APC won five of six Chairmanship positions.

“Amupitan’s INEC failed woefully. On this evidence, nobody can trust Joash Amupitan to organise credible elections in 2027.

“There’s nothing else to it; it is not about the law. It is about the failure of will, the failure of electoral administration,” he stated.

Odinkalu had charged the INEC boss to sit up or resign his position, saying, for instance, that the logistic management during the Abuja council polls was very abysmal.

The rights activist also faulted INEC for reassigning voters without properly informing them of a change in their polling units on the day of election. .

Odinkalu challenged the electoral body to admit to the challenges and apologise to Nigerians for some shortcomings.

He called on Amupitan to take responsibility for what he described as the FCT council election failure.  Amupitan, the rights activist said, should simply admist to Nigerians that “I take personal responsibility, this is a chastening experience. I am learning, some of these things I saw cannot happen on my watch”.

“But to simply pretend as if these things did not happen and say this is the standard to which elections are organised will be irresponsible,” he stated.

Odinkalu further noted that Nigerians are not asking for perfections but evidence of commitment to improvements by the electoral body.

“A chairperson of INEC who is committed to credible elections would admit that there are failures that should never have happened on the watch of a credible electoral administrator and will say, ‘We will do something about it, enlist citizens who have no partisan commitments to see how we address these issues,’” the rights activist said.

But speaking yesterday, Prof Amupitan vowed to conduct the most credible election in the nation’s history, stressing however that the election may not be 100 percent perfect, adding that the commission will improve with time.

“By the grace of God, the 2027 election will be the best election Nigerians have experienced,” Amupitan said.

Tinubu: God Teaching Nigerians  Painful Lesson – Fmr SDP Presidential Candidate

0
Adewole Adebayo - SDP Presidential Candidate

By Suleiman Anyalewechi

The Presidential candidate of the Social Democratic party, SDP, during the 2023 general elections, Prince Adewole Adebayo, has insisted that the Bola Tinubu’s Presidency remains an excruciating punishment inflicted on the people of Nigeria by God  for ignoring the principles of Justice and fairness.

This is as he maintained  that the Muslim-Muslim ticket rather than being a blessing, has turned out to be a huge disappointment.

Adebayo who spoke on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at the occasion of a Ramadan Iftar held in Kano by the AAFAQ Foundation, called on Nigerians to  refrain from making their political preferences based on ethnic, sectarian and religious considerations.

According to him, Nigerians should rather embrace the principles of justice, equity and fairness, as well as competence in their leadership choices.

The former SDP Presidential Candidate, noted that he had during his campaign tour of Kano, and other States warned that the country was heading for the precipice, noting that he has been vindicated by the painful lessons God is serving out to the people as a result of the emergence of President Tinubu.

“Four years ago, I was in the city of Kano campaigning for the Presidency of Nigeria. And I could see that God wanted to teach us a lesson in Nigeria.

“And until we learn that lesson, there is nothing the world can do for us. Almighty Allah does not make mistakes.

“Tinubu’s Presidency should not be misinterpreted as a mark of divine favour, but should be seen for what it is- a painful lesson from God, and a wake-up call for national rebirth”, Adebayo stated.

He emphasized the need for Nigeria and Nigerians to subscribe to the principle of justice, as the cornerstone of a prosperous country.

According to him, it is not the quantum of natural resources available to a country that makes it great, but the supremacy of justice and fairness.

He particularly noted that he had warned against the dangers inherent in the Muslim-Muslim ticket of the All Progressive Congress, APC, in 2023 but his concern was ignored.

“It is better to live in a country that is a desert with no water, no oil, no mineral resources, but that has justice, than to live in a land of abundance with injustice.

“When I came to Kano, during the 2023 electioneering campaigns, people were smiling when they were mentioning Muslim-Muslim ticket.

Bola Ahmed Tinubu
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“I said don’t worry. Let the election be over. Time will come that if they were looking for two Muslims, they will not even get one. And that time is here”, Adebayo noted.

The SDP chieftain, therefore, urged the people to always consider capacity, competence, as well as justice and unity, above any other considerations in the making of political choices.

This is as he cautioned against the temptation by some people to latch on the ongoing crisis in the Middle East to disrupt the fragile peace of the nation.

While condemning  the brewing disagreement and tension between Israel and Iran on one hand  and Iran versus the United States of America USA on the other, Adebayo, however, warned against attacks on innocent people, especially during this Holy Month of Ramadan.

“This is not a time in which some people can gather at a place and decide to make bonfire and disrupt the peace of the country for other people who are in their own country observing the holy month.

The National Coordinator of AAFAQ Foundation, Dr Abdulmutallib Ahmad Muhammad, appreciating  Adebayo for his insightful lecture, reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of the body towards reshaping the country’s political environment by way of advocating for the enthronement of credible leadership.

Primate Ayodele Builds Mosque

By Adesina Soyooye

In the midst of serious allegations of Christian genocide in Nigeria, by the United States of America, a well known Christian Prophet, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has built a Mosque for Moslems and named it after the late mother of President Bola Tinubu, Alhaja Abibatu Mogaji.

The Mosque was commissioned on February 24, 2026, by an excited first daughter of the President, Iyaloje-General of Nigeria, Chief Mrs Folashade Tinubu-Ojo.

It was attended bya good number of members of the Muslim community, Muslim clerics, members of Primate Ayodele’s Church, INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, and other guests.

Tinubu-Ojo expressed gratitude to Primate Ayodele and described the his thoughtful gesture as miraculous.”Everything is possible with God”, she noted.

She was full of commendation for Primate Ayodele for finding her grandmother worthy of having the mosque named after her. She, also stated that it demonstrates the prophet’s recognition of the positive contributions of her grandmother to humanity.

Her words: “I am very excited. I give thanks to the man of God being used for this project. This is the first time we are witnessing a Christian building a mosque. It shows that there is nothing God cannot do. When people say there is no way, God will always make a way. This mosque is a miracle. I appreciate Primate Ayodele for counting the Tinubu family worthy. Thank you for recognizing the impact of our matriarch who has gone to be with the Lord. Her spirit is definitely with us here.”

In his speech, Primate Ayodele appreciated the late Matriarch and described  her as very humble.

He said: “I saw Mama twice when we went to pray with her. I admired her so much, and she also attended one of our programmes when we invited her. I do not regret naming the mosque after her, especially after God instructed me to do so. Even if nobody from your family comes, I do not regret it. I am not doing this for any reward. I am handing it over to you. I am donating it to the Tinubu family. I do not want to have anything to do with it.”

“You are someone who does not forget people; you always want to lift others up. I appreciate you for your humility. People told me you would not come, but this has been written in destiny for a long time. I appreciate your presence.”

It is worth noting that the commissioning was initially scheduled to take place on Saturday, February 21, 2026, but was postponed due to unforeseen circumstances.

Tinubu Recalls NSCDC Boss From Retirement, Renews Appointment

His reappointment took effect from February 27, 2026.

The Special Adviser to the President on information and strategy, Bayo Onanuga, announced Audi’s    reappointment in a statement on Saturday, February 28.

Onanuga, in the statement said that Audi will resume office with a new mandate on Monday, March 2.

Here’s the irony. Audi retired from public service

on Friday, February 27, Audi

after reaching the mandatory retirement age of 60 years, and the completion of his  tenure.

The NSCDC boss who was appointed into office by the late President Muhammadu Buhari, assumed office on March 1, 2021.

.

Audi celebrated his final day in office on Friday, February 27, 2026, at the Headquarters of the Corp in Abuja, which was the commemoration of the 2026 World Civil Defence Day.

Well read, Audi holds a PhD in Public Communication from the Nasarawa State

University, Keffi. He holds a Masters in Public Business Administration from the University of Calabar, and  is a member of the National Institute.

Audi’s reappointment, however, is not sitting well on number of people who insist that it has deprived those who are due and qualified to assume such responsibility. They point out that if he has attained the mandatory service retirement age, he should have gone to rest, so others will grow and attain the ranks due to them.

Gov Soludo Begins Demolition Of Onitsha Main Market

Demolition Of Onitsha Main Market
Demolition Of Onitsha Main Market

By Suleiman Anyalewechi

The Anambra State Government on Sunday, March 1,2026, announced the commencement of the demolition of illegal structures at the Onitsha Main Market ,in preparation for  its remodeling and reconstruction.

However, the demolition is coming  despite a subsisting court order restraining the Government from carrying out the exercise , pending the hearing and determination of a substantive motion on notice filed by some aggrieved traders.

The demolition and planned remodeling and reconstruction exercise were preceded by the authorities’ closure of the market mid-January for a week following alleged refusal of traders to discontinue the Monday sit-at-home order proclaimed by the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, IPOB, in the South East region to press home it’s demand for the release of its detained leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

The Anambra’ state Government had, in the second week of January this year, in a circular, banned the continued observation of the Monday sit-at-home order in all parts of the State, threatening to sanction defaulters, including payment of civil servants salaries based on Monday attendance.

Honourable Justice J. I. Nweze of an Anambra State High Court, Awka, had, in a ruling on an application filed by traders of Human Fence Zone One Line of the Market ordered all parties to maintain the status quo until the hearing and determination of motion on notice billed for March 16, 2026.

But  a statement from the Anambra’ state New Media on Sunday informed that the demolition exercise has finally begun .

According to the statement the  exercise which is being handled by the authorities of the Onitsha North Local Council , is coming after series of notices to the affected shops and property owners

” Crackdown: Onitsha North LGA begins demolition of illegal structures at the Onitsha Main Market .

” Occupants were duly notified . The mission is to reclaim the original masterplan ,and restore order for seamless ” trade and shop activities” the statement reads .

The Source further reports that the Anambra’ state Government had on February 26 ,2026 , issued what it described as the last notice for the affected shop owners to evacuate their items.

The notice which was issued through the  Mayor of Onitsha North Local Government Area ,Hon Anthony Nwora  enjoined owners of structures marked for demolition to vacate on or before February 14 ,2026 .

However ,the notice was later extended to February 28, 2026 .

” The owners/occupants of all the illegal structures located at Park 1 ,park 2 and park 3 of Main Market , Onitsha are hereby reminded that after the 14 days earlier notice of demolition of the illegal structures given to them , which expired on 14th February,2026 ,which was extended based on their request by another 14 days which will expire on 28th February ,2026 ,the Onitsha North Local Government will carry out the demolition of the illegal structures anytime from Sunday 1st March ,2026.

” All those who still have any valuables in those structures are advised to remove all such items on or before Sunday 1st March 2026″ the final notice reads .

It will be recalled that Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo in the wake of the controversy that trailed the closure of the Market over sit-at-home order , insisted on the demolition , remodeling and reconstruction of the Market to ease congestion ,as well as align  it’s operations  to both national and international best standards.

While Arewa Is Bleeding, Its Leaders Are Fighting

0
Kadaria Ahmed

By Kadaria Ahmed

Let us start with what we know.

Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, former governor of Kaduna State, former FCT Minister under President Olusegun Obasanjo, and one-time Director-General of the Bureau of Public Enterprises, is under arrest. He is facing allegations of corruption and accusations under the Cybercrimes Act, including claims that he facilitated the tapping of the phone of the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu. He has denied all wrongdoing. He says this is political persecution, punishment for criticising a government he helped bring to power.

The courts will determine the legal truth.

But politics is rarely only about what is written in a charge sheet.

This story is not simply about El-Rufai. It is about power. It is about loyalty. And it is about a region in crisis whose leaders appear unable to rise above themselves.

Because this is not just any defendant.

This is a man who once stood shoulder to shoulder with Mallam Nuhu Ribadu during President Obasanjo’s time in charge. As Elrufa’i was reshaping Abuja as FCT Minister, Ribadu was holding people accountable at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, the EFCC. They were close. Close enough by many accounts, for Ribadu to name his son Nasir, after El’Rufa’i. Close enough for the two to share political exile during the presidency of Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.

Today they are on opposite sides of state power.

Then there is Mallam Uba Sani, El-Rufai’s political protégé and successor in Kaduna. A man who has publicly acknowledged the former governor’s role in building his career. Their relationship is now, at best, strained, but is more likely shattered.

All northerners. All influential. All fractured.

And that is the real story.

The North Is Not Well

Let us speak plainly.

Northern Nigeria is in trouble.

In the North-West, terrorist bandits have evolved into a parallel authority structure. Villages in Zamfara, Katsina, Sokoto and Kaduna pay taxes to armed groups or flee entirely. Kidnappings and killings are no longer shocking, they are routine!

In the North-East, insurgency persists in altered forms. The violence that began over a decade ago has splintered, but it has not ended, instead it has spread, knocking on doors and entering into homes in the neighbouring Northcentral region. Across the Arewa, communities are living with death, trauma, uncertainty and with hunger.

Poverty statistics are not abstract numbers; they are lived reality.

Multidimensional poverty is highest in the region.

The economy of the Arewa once vibrant and strong is under severe structural strain. Widespread insecurity has crippled agriculture, pastoralism and rural commerce. Low educational attainment has put limits on productivity, while weak industrialisation and heavy fiscal dependence on federal allocations add to the milieu of problems. This is the reality of Arewa today.

The majority of Nigeria’s out-of-school children are northern. Maternal and child mortality rates remain very high. Youth unemployment fuels despair, drug use and recruitment.

And pressure from the impact of climate change worsens everything. Competition for land ignites more farmer-herder conflicts. Livelihoods collapse, social cohesion has frayed and in some places is non-existent.

Even symbols of continuity are under strain. In Kano, the Emirate is in crisis, brothers have become rival claimants, federal involvement and political overtones have turned a centuries-old institution into a battlefield.

This is not a stable region.

This is a region facing trouble of gigantic proportions.

So Why Are Its Leaders Fighting?

There was a time when northern political elites understood the value of strategic cohesion. Under Sir Ahmadu Bello, disagreements existed, but there was a unifying doctrine, protect the region’s long-term interests.

Today, the instinct seems reversed.

Instead of a minimum common agenda on security, education and economic revival, we see fragmentation. Instead of coordination, we see camps. Instead of strategy, we see in-fighting and retaliation.

It would be naïve to pretend power is sentimental.

Power will always do what it has always done, grow itself and consolidate using whatever means necessary.

That is not a moral judgment. It is an observation.

The question for the leaders of Arewa and its politicians, both those inside the current power structure and those trying to replace it, is whether the gains of power will continue to accrue only to them as individuals, or if some of it will be used to improve the lives of their communities and save Arewa from complete collapse?

Because while politicians are politicking, farmers are being displaced and pastoralists are losing their livelihoods. Children are out of school and young men are being radicalised. Entire local economies are collapsing and thousands are getting killed.

And there is no visible, coordinated northern response.

Accountability, yes…and

Let us also be honest about El-Rufai.

He is not a victim archetype.

His years in Kaduna were marked by ambitious reforms, urban restructuring, public service reforms, controversial religious and educational policies. Admirers called him courageous. Critics called him ruthless. Many felt unheard.

So yes, there are people who feel no sympathy for him now.

But sympathy is irrelevant.

The issue is this, can a region facing an existential crisis afford to cannibalise its most experienced political actors without building something stronger in their place?

In Kano, the north’s ancient city and commercial power house, former Central Bank Governor and intellectual giant, Emir Muhammadu Sanusi 11, is no longer focused on the ambitious reforms he started on family law, early marriage and education during his first coming, but is instead distracted with holding unto a contested throne.

In the same state, Mallam Rabiu Musa Kwankwasso, one of the norths leading politicians has fallen out with his protegees, people who he groomed and helped get into high political office: the former governor of the state, Mallam Abdullahi Umar Ganjude and the current Governor of Kano State, Mallam Abba Yusuf who also happens to be his son in law. The outcome on the political volatile state in the forthcoming election is best not imagined.

Across the north, prominent Arewa politicians are turning on each other with no discernible benefit from these battles accruing to the ordinary citizens they are supposed to represent. Yusuf Tuggar/Bala Muhammed, Bello Matawalle/Dauda Lawal, and the list goes on and on.

The Larger Failure

The tragedy here is bigger than one arrest, bigger than political Godfathers fighting their protégées, bigger than two blood brothers turning on each other.

Where is the bi-partisan cooperation that puts the survival of the people of Arewa over and above personal political gains?

Where is the summit of ALL northern leaders on the security crisis?

Where is the region-wide education emergency plan?

Where is the regionally coordinated agricultural and pastoral transformation and strategy?

Where is the unified push for fiscal and policy reforms tailored to northern realities?

Across party lines?

Instead, what the public sees is estrangement.

Across Maishayi stalls in Sokoto and markets in Kaduna and Bauchi, a narrative is forming: that Arewa is weakening itself, that its elite are more invested in proximity to federal power than in proximity to their people’s pain.

Whether that narrative is fair or exaggerated almost does not matter.

What matters is that it is spreading.

History Will Ask

History is unforgiving of leaders who mistake consolidation for legacy.

Arewa does not lack intelligence. It does not lack influence. It does not lack political experience.

It lacks alignment.

The North is bleeding, economically, socially, psychologically. It needs mature leadership capable of disagreement without destruction, of competition without implosion.

If its most powerful sons and daughters cannot find a minimum common purpose in this moment, then future generations will not remember who won which feud.

They will remember that when the region stood at the edge, its leaders chose to fight each other.

And that choice may prove far more consequential than any single charge sheet, political party or election.

By Ayodele Oni

Police in Katsina state has invited organizers of Ramadan Zakkat programme where no fewer than four persons lost their lives, while 18 others sustained injuries following a stampede.

It was gathered that the incident happened during the distribution of Ramadan Zakkat in Katsina metropolis.

The incident reportedly occurred around 9pm on Saturday, at the residence of Alhaji Dahiru Usman Sarki, located in the Kofar Guga area of the state capital.

A security analyst, Zagazola Makama, disclosed the development in a post on X on Saturday, noting that a large crowd had gathered at the venue to receive the annual Ramadan alms when chaos broke out.

According to him, the situation degenerated after some persons allegedly forced their way into the compound, triggering a stampede as beneficiaries scrambled for safety.

The Divisional Police Officer in charge of the Central Police Station was said to have swiftly deployed officers to the scene, where normalcy was eventually restored.

Eighteen victims who suffered varying degrees of injuries were evacuated to the General Hospital, Katsina, for medical attention. Medical personnel later confirmed four of the victims dead.

They were identified as Bilkisu Mamman, 40, from Kerau Quarters; Ihsan Musbahu, 40, of Abattoir Quarters; Aisha Sani, 16, from Kofar Sauri Quarters; and Salamatu Kabir, 45, of Sabuwar Unguwa Quarters.

Makama further disclosed that a 15-year-old victim, Hafsat Zubairu of Masanawa Quarters, was subsequently referred to the Federal Teaching Hospital for advanced treatment.

The Police confirmed that the organisers of the Zakkat distribution have been invited for questioning as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the stampede continue.
