The State chapter of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) had on Friday demanded for the whereabout of the governor, insisting that people of the state deserve to know.

But responding to the rumours, the Ondo First Lady wrote on her known Facebook page: “Baba Aketi niyen! Dey enjoy your vacation jare. A begi wetin I dey hear, gist kini?

She, also, released a video last Sunday in which Akeredolu, 67, was seen singing and dancing in a room to show he is hail and hearty.

“Shitloveragain? Na you go waka go hell fire! (That is Baba Aketi, continue enjoying your vacation. What am I hearing? ‘Shitlover’ again? It is you that will go to hell .

Olatunde said Akeredolu transferred power to his Deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

The governor had resumed from the 14 days vacation and performed some official duties before he developed health complications which led to his being flown abroad, it is alleged.

Immediate past Minister for Women Affairs, Pauline Tallen, has debunked Media reports of her arrest by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, (EFCC).

In her clarification in a statement on Saturday, the former Minister stated that she went to the anti graft Commission on her own to clarify some issues.

“At about 9pm yesterday news began circulating that I had been arrested by the EFCC. This fake news was carried by several media outlets who were either mischievious or misguided.

“I would like to state that I went to the EFCC on my own accord to address the very false allegation made against me recently.

“Owing to the respect for my former Principal –  Former President Muhammadu Buhari and his good office, I did not previously address the open allegation. However, it has now become necessary to do so.

“Firstly, the decent and appropriate action, should have been a genuine enquiry, would be to write to the Mininstry for Women Affairs, to enquire about any funds sent to the Ministry.

“To immediately jump to the open without any proper formal correspondence is highly unprofessional, portrays a lack of respect for the Ministry of Women Affairs and injurious to my person and character.

“Furthermore, I will like to state that there was no formal invitation from the anti-graft agency neither was I arrested.

“Again out of respect for the professionalism demonstrated by the EFCC, I will make this Press statement a brief one, to allow for a transparent enquiry.

“Finally, I urge all leaders in every sphere of our Society and remind them that our Economic and Political infrastructure are to be used to serve the Nation, from the highest office holder to the noblest of us and not to be used as a tool for bias or intimidation.”

NIMASA Hails Milestone Decision To Disburse $360m Cabotage Fund

0

The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, has received support from the House of Representatives to disburse the $360 million Cabotage Vessel Finance Fund, CVFF, to qualified Nigerian shipowners.

A committee of the House, in its report, gave the nod for disbursement, at the end of an investigation which was chaired by Hon. (Barr.) Legor Idagbo.

The Committee in its report said it made the following findings: “The Committee requested the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency and the Ministry of Transportation to provide detailed information on the total amount accrued to the Fund and disbursements since inception.

“The Committee met with the Minister of Transportation and the Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) on Thursday, 11 May 2023 to find out about the details concerning the matter.

“After a thorough analysis of the various submissions, coupled with the explanations given by the Ministry and NIMASA, the Committee discovered that due process was followed in the planned disbursement of the Cabotage Vessel Finance Fund.

“The Committee notes that the Cabotage Vessel Finance Fund (CVFF) is a fund that was set up in 2003 by the Coastal and Inland Shipping Act. The fund was established to develop indigenous ship acquisition capacity and to provide financial assistance to indigenous shipping operators.

“The Committee further notes that there is a lack of capacity amongst indigenous/ Domestic Coastal operators in Nigeria, thus the reason Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPC) still awards contracts to foreign shipping companies in contravention of the Cabotage and Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development (NOGICD) Acts. Some of these awards have been previously investigated by the Committee, which led to their cancellation.

“It was also discovered that the total funds of $360m in the Cabotage Vessel Finance Fund (CVFF) account with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) represents 50%, while the remaining counterpart funds of 50% is from stakeholders and banks, which is 15% and 35% respectively”.

The Committee commended the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited, NNPCL, for its commitment to awarding shipping contracts to indigenous companies that have built capacity to the level where they can successfully execute these contracts.

Reacting, Bashir Jamoh, Director General of NIMASA, thanked the lawmakers for their interest in verifying the due process being followed by the Agency.

Jamoh who expressed optimism that the NNPCL’s resolve to award maritime contracts to indigenous companies will give strength to the Cabotage regime being championed by the Agency, reaffirmed NIMASA’s transparency resolve in all facets of the Agency’s operation

The DG also called for more stakeholder support, saying the CVFF will evolve into greater benefit for more Nigerians, grow the per capita income and Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Nigeria, through the maritime industry.

NLC Strike: Tinubu’s Spokesman Accuses Labour Of Working For Obi

0

Ahead of the planned nationwide strike by the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, Nigerians have been advised to shun the strike called by organized labour over the removal of the fuel subsidy by the federal government.

Bayo Onanuga, Director, Media and Publicity for the dissolved All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council made the admonition on Saturday, accusing NLC of working for the opposition Labour Party, LP whose presidential candidate, Peter Obi is currently at the election tribunal to disprove the election of Bola Ahmed Tinubu as president and commander-in-chief.

Tinubu during his inauguration on May 29, announced the end of the multi-billion fuel subsidy regime that cost Nigeria over $10 billion last year.

The president’s announcement that ‘subsidy is gone’ has elicited mixed reactions from Nigerians.

Organized labour under the aegis of the NLC and Trade Union Congress, TUC, however, kicked saying the removal will bring untold hardship to Nigerians.

The NLC president, Joe Ajaero, in a statement on Friday, said the workers will embark on a five-day warning strike if the federal government failed to rescind its decision which has led to petrol being sold for at least N500 per litre across the country.

Ajaero said the decision was taken unilaterally without consulting with the Labour, adding that the removal has serious consequences for his members.

But in his response, Onanuga advised Nigerians not to allow them to be misled by NLC which he accused of working with the opposition labour party to throw the country into crisis.

He on his verified Twitter handle that the Ajaero-led union is playing politics and acting the script of the opposition LP, warning that  Ajaero is trying to destabilise the Tinubu’s administration.

He explained that the country is currently broke and can no longer afford the bogus payment of subsidy on petrol.

According to him, “NLC President Joe Ajaero has asked workers to go on strike next Wednesday over the removal of petrol subsidy, despite being privy to the distressing financial figures, which justified why subsidy ought to have been scrapped a long time ago. My advice to the perceptive workers and the Nigerian populace is simply to ignore Ajaero and his ilk.

“He is playing politics and is actually acting the script of the opposition Labour Party, out to destabilise the young Tinubu administration.

“Besides, one wonders whose interest Ajaero is championing, when he did not oppose the position of his Labour Party and presidential candidate, who campaigned with the promise to scrap subsidy from Day One, if elected.

“NLC and TUC leaders knew since last year November that subsidy will be scrapped from July 1 as no provision has been made in the budget for it, beyond this date.

“The Federal Government which already commits 96 percent of its revenue in servicing debt is not in any position to continue selling subsidised fuel, most of which is smuggled across our borders for criminal and obscenely unpatriotic profit.”

“The Nigerian people and workers should support the government as it works out new wages and rolls out other interventions, as promised by President Tinubu, to mitigate the effects of the new fuel price.

“Let’s not make ourselves pawns in the hands of the politically biased and tainted NLC and TUC. Ajaero is no more a labour leader. He is a politician and leader of the Labour Party.

“He is no more representing all the Nigerian workers.”

Meanwhile, Femi Falana, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, said on Friday that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company, NNPC Ltd has no power to announce a hike in the price of petrol.

President Tinubu, he said, is the only one that could make that announcement since the Minister of Petroleum is yet to be appointed.
