The Oyo State Police Command has demanded 48 hours notification from political parties before embarking on any form of rally.

The command advised that it must be informed about any planned procession or gathering to enable adequate security arrangements, and prevent breaches of public peace.

The directive followed a fatal attack on a group of individuals who were welcoming Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat a governorship candidate of Accord Party, back to Ibadan, an incident that resulted in the death of one person.

According to the report lodged at the Police Station on 14 October 2026 by Kehinde Samuel Ibikunle, the group came under attack by suspected hoodlums shortly after leaving Molete, while proceeding towards Iwo Road, where the Agidigbo office is located.

During the attack, one Azeez Tajudeen, aged 40, a native of Oke Amu in Otesiwaju Local Government Area of Oyo State, sustained a severe injury to his right eye.

He was immediately rushed for medical attention and subsequently taken to State Hospital, Ring Road, Ibadan, where he was examined and confirmed dead. His remains have since been deposited at the hospital morgue.

In response to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, directed the transfer of the case to the Command Monitoring Unit for a proper and discreet investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack and to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.

While the investigation is ongoing, the Command reiterates the importance of prior security coordination for public gatherings and processions.

“Consequently, all political aspirants, party leaders, and event organisers are urged to formally notify the Command at least 48 hours before any planned procession or gathering to enable adequate security arrangements, prevent breaches of public peace, and safeguard participants and other members of the public.”

The Command spokesman, Olayinka Akinlade confirmed that investigation into the incident has commenced.

He also appealed to members of the public, who may have credible information capable of assisting the investigation to come forward and cooperate with the Police.
