The lawmaker was reportedly quoted during an interview on Symfoni TV as saying: “I passed through his village two days ago, and he has over 30 houses that belong to him.”

However, Ogene has distanced himself from the statement, insisting that he did not make the claim attributed to him.

One of his aides, who spoke to the magazine said Ogene did not make the remark, describing it as a lie. He stated that many Nigerians even know that the former governor does not own such properties.

The controversy comes amid the ongoing exchange between Works Minister David Umahi and Obi’s supporters over the former governor’s achievements and presidential credentials.

Umahi had questioned what distinguished Obi from other prominent South-East leaders, including former governors Sam Egwu and Anyim Pius Anyim.

The former Ebonyi governor also questioned whether Obi’s emphasis on character and prudent management of resources should take precedence over infrastructure development.

Describing himself as the Lion of the South-East, Umahi maintained that the region should support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.

Ogene’s denial has now added another dimension to the political disagreement, raising questions about the accuracy of the report linking him to the claim that Obi owns more than 30 houses in his village.
