The Nigeria Movie Industry, Nollywood, has been thrown into mourning following the sudden passing of Chijioke Nwokafor, popular as Cjay.
Colleagues and fans of the Nollywood star are mourning his passing, and are yet to come to terms with his death.
Announcing Cjay’s passing, actress, Nkechi Blessing stated that she had spoken with the actor earlier that morning, only to learn a few hours later that he had died.
Though the circumstances leading to the death of the promising actor remains unknown, his family is being waited upon to release details of funeral arrangements.
Following his death Blessing cancelled the planned release of her movie, Egusi and Ogbono, in which Cjay played a major role as a mark of respect for the late actor.
The film had been scheduled for release later on the day Cjay died.
Cjay began his acting career in 2021 and went on to appear in several Nollywood productions, including Larry Cold, Mum Overnight, A Day to My Wedding and The Lies She Tell.
The Anambra-born actor had recently spoken publicly about how his first experience on a film set influenced his decision to pursue acting professionally. He said working around filmmaker Ruth Kadiri and other actors helped strengthen his interest in the industry.
His final social media posts have also attracted renewed attention following news of his death. In one message earlier in September, Cjay reflected on the importance of enjoying life and avoiding unhappiness.
Tributes have continued to emerge from colleagues and fans as the Nigerian entertainment industry awaits further information from his family.
