Mob Lynch, Set Ablaze Female Food Vendor Over Alleged Blasphemy

The Niger State Police Command has vowed to unmask, and bring to justice those found to be involved in the attack and killing of a female food vendor in Kasuwan -Garba town ,Mariga Local Council of the State.

The Source reports that a  middle aged woman identified as Amaye was, Saturday evening, August 30, lynched,and subsequently burnt alive by a mob over alleged blasphemous statement against the Holy Prophet Muhammad.

According to some eye witness accounts, trouble began when one of the woman’s customers jokingly offered to marry her as an additional wife in keeping with Islamic tradition which permits a man to marry as many as four wives.

However, while responding to the said marriage joke, the food vendor was accused of making perceived derogatory remarks about the Prophet, as a result of  which a mob attacked and set her a blaze .

It was also gathered that before  her lynching, she was taken to the Palace of the District Head of Mariga Local Government,who according to witnesses handed her over to the police for further investigation .

But the irate locals were said to have overpowered security operatives,,and decided to meted out jungle justice.

A statement from the Niger State Police Command spokesperson, Wasiu Abiodun, on Sunday, while confirming the unfortunate incident, however assured that efforts are underway to apprehend those behind the dastardly act.

“On 30/8/2025, at about 2 pm, report received indicated that one Amaye ,a female of Kasuwan -Garba ,Mariga LGA, made some comments against the Islamic prophet .

“Unfortunately, it led to a mob attack, and she was set ablaze before the reinforcement of the security teams.

“Efforts are ongoing to ensure the arrest and prosecution of those responsible” the Police stated.

Meanwhile the police said normalcy has been restored in the area, with enhanced security presence.

Recall that a couple of years ago, a female student in Sokoto was set ablaze by her fellow students for, allegedly, expressing concern in their department’s platform over  constant prayer- messages instead of information on their class work and prayers.

The Police, also, vowed arrest of the perpetrators of the heinous crime and justice for the student. Till date, nothing. The case seems to have died quietly.
