Following the threat she and her Party members continually faces, Fausat Jaji, Woman Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, in Lagos Island, Lagos State, has called for increased security in the area as the 2027 General Election draw closer.

She lamented how NDC members, including her, face threat while carrying out campaign activities.

Jaji raised concerns over what she described as the security challenges confronting NDC members on Lagos Island.

According to her, party members could attract threats simply by wearing NDC campaign paraphernalia, making it difficult for them to freely move around the constituency during the electioneering period.

The Woman Leader, representing Constituency 1, also alleged the presence of thugs in the area and expressed concern over what she described as the heavy presence of members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW.

She implored the Police to take proactive steps ahead of the election, including conducting operations in areas she identified as potential locations where plans to disrupt electoral activities could be made.

The NDC Woman Leader said the situation had forced members of the party to scale down their campaign activities and concentrate more on house-to-house mobilisation because of concerns over their safety.

She said, “All these other parties are threatening us and there are a lot of them. They are too many; they are more than us.

“Wearing my senatorial candidate’s cap is a big threat for me because members of the opposition parties will be threatening me.”

She also complained that the fear of harassment while moving around the constituency had made open campaigning increasingly difficult for NDC members.

She reiterated the need for stronger security arrangements on Lagos Island to enable party members campaign without fear ahead of the election.
