The much celebrated Emmanuel Blessing Fubara, reportedly, the elder brother of embattled Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, who was being positioned to run for the Governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, to give the candidate of the the All Progressives Congress, APC, a run for votes in the 2027 Governorship Election has come to nought.
A couple of days after the APC humiliated Governor Fubara by denying him a reelection ticket, a courtesy extended to his colleagues, which forced him to withdraw from the race, Emmanuel Blessing Fubara, suddenly surfaced and declared he would run for the Governorship seat. His surname – Fubara – galvanised not a few people to his side. He, also, flaunted a purported two million followers on social media, and asked them to back him. It turned out to be hot air.
On Thursday, May 29, when the Governorship Primaries of the Party was held, he was “nowhere to be found”. Allegedly, he bowed to pressure, and, like his “Governor-brother” withdrew from the race.
Standing alone for the race, and the ticket, was billionaire-businessman Dumo Lulu-Briggs, a perennial Governorship aspirant. He was elected unopposed.
At the time of filing this report, the NDC has not issued an official statement on the results of Governorship Primaries but Lulu-Briggs is already celebrating.
In a post where he said he was giving an update on the primaries, Lulu-Briggs boasted:
“Today’s governorship primaries of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) across Rivers State were conducted peacefully, orderly, and in the true spirit of democracy. In my LGA, Akuku-Toru, the process was calm and seamless, and I am deeply humbled by the overwhelming show of confidence and unity demonstrated by party faithful.
“I emerged unopposed, with no opposing aspirant present at the venue, and I accepted the affirmation of our members with gratitude, humility, and a deep sense of responsibility.
“I thank God for His grace throughout this process and appreciate every delegate, stakeholder, and supporter who stood firmly for peace, progress, and the future of our dear state.
“As we await the final collation and official announcements from the party leadership, I remain committed to the ideals of service, which the NDC proudly represents. The journey to selfless service for Rivers State is only just beginning.”
If ratified, Lulu-Briggs will face, mainly, candidates of the APC, Kingsley Chinda and the candidate of the PDP.
