Chief Medical Director Abducted By Gunmen In Army, Police Uniforms

For Dr. Edwin Emegoarkor, the Chief Medical Director  of Crown Hospital Nkpor, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, it was a ward round gone awry.

On Thursday May 7, 2026, he was on a ward round in the hospital when a gang of four men, wearing Military and Police uniforms, entered the ward, and while patients watched, he was forcefully abducted. Time was about 6.30am. 

Eye witness accounts say that the gang of four had driven into the hospital premises in a heavily tinted Lexus 350 parked, and sat back in the car discussing amongst themselves. But apparently, they were bidding their time and waiting for their victim to begin his ward-round.

When he entered the ward, two of the gunmen, one in Army uniform, the other in Police uniform, entered walked into the ward just as the remaining two rounded up the security guards at the gate and all those within the premises, and dispossessed them of their phones.

Said an eye-witness: “They were casually discussing inside their car while people were moving about in the hospital freely without noticing them.

“They were patiently waiting for their victim and later two of them, one in army camouflage and the other in police uniform, came out and picked the CMD who was on a ward round.

“Meanwhile, the gunmen surrendered the security men and some medical personnel, took their phones together with others around and left with their victim, Dr Emegoakor.

“No life was lost in the process, probably because they did not want to attract the attention of patients and other passers-by.”
