Atiku: Adeleke Has Shown That Tinubu Can Be Defeated In 2027

Presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC Atiku Abubakar has warned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress,  APC that the outcome of the Osun state governorship election is a pointer of what to expect in the 2027 general election.

According to the former Vice president, in a statement released by his media office, the ruling party may swallow a bitter pill of defeat in next year’s election, the same way it has suffered during yesterday election, which was won by the opposition candidate and incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, who ran under the Accord party.

The magazine had earlier reported that Adeleke was declared winner of the election after scoring over 511,000 votes to defeat his closest rival in the election, Bola Oyebamiji who scored less than 455,000 votes.

Reacting, Abubakar said the victory of Governor Adeleke was the reflection of the people of the state, warning the ruling APC to expect more surprises in next year’s election, adding that voters in the state have shown that Nigerians why they must come out to vote en masse in the 2027 election to send APC packing from office, noting that APC still failed to win the election  despite deploying state power to influence the outcome of the election.

The ADC presidential hopeful said the defeat suffered by the APC is a pointer that the party has been rejected b Nigerians and an indication that the APC will be “defeated in the general election in January 2027”

“The lesson from the election is that the voters in Osun State have set a good example of how we must come out in large numbers in the general elections next year.

“Another important lesson from the Osun election is that it is a clear manifestation of how the collective resolve of the electorate to stand firm to protect their ballot is the best antidote to rigging, vote buying and other electoral malpractice and irregularities,” Abubakar said.

Meanwhile, the magazine reports that Governor Adeleke has re-affirmed his support for President Tinubu’s reelection next year.

Tinubu had earlier called the Governor-elect on the phone saying his victory was an indication of his popularity in the state.
