Osun State Governor-Elect Ademola Adeleke says he has not changed his mind on his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second term bid.
Adeleke made the remark on Sunday while delivering his victory speech few hours after the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC declared him winner of the governorship election held on Saturday.
The incumbent was declared winner aftrer scoring over 511,000 votes to defeat his closest rival in the election Bola Oyebamiji who, according to INEC’s records scored over 444,000 votes.
Adeleke won the election with a large margin despite the overwhelming state machinery deployed to the state by the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, which analysts said were meant to turn the outcome of the election against the governor who ran under the Accord party.
For instance, dozens of APC state governors, apart from other top government officials were deployed to the state during the election, to influence the outcome of the election, according to analysts, who also cited the heavy presence of security operatives as a pointer that the ruling APC was poised to take the state by force.
Over 15,000 policemen, apart from soldiers and other para-military organizations were sent to the state during the election, according to the federal government.
After the election result was announced by INEC, music superstar David Adeleke aka Davido, Governor Adeleke’s cousin had posted a cryptic message on his social media platform where he hinted that the governor should not support President Tinubu’s second term.
“No more supporting any presidential candidate, Ademola Adeleke make we Dey our Dey,” Davido wrote on X.
In spite of this, Governor Adeleke said he has not changed his decision to support Tinubu in 2027 for reelection, after expressing his gratitude to the president for supporting free and fair election in the state last Saturday.
Governor Adeleke said the reason why he’s supporting Tinubu’s return to office next year is because he’s an indigene of the state.
He said: “At this point, I must deeply appreciate Mr President, His Excellency, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his strong support for a free and fair election
“Mr President is a son of Osun State and I hereby reaffirm my earlier endorsement of him for second term in the 2027 presidential election.
Tinubu had never claimed to be from Osun state, even as controversy continues over his state of origin.
