Chief Alex Mbakwe, first son of the late Chief Sam Mbakwe, first civilian Governor of Imo State, and his wife, Lady Victoria, has died.
The news of his passing, has shaken Imo State as not many knew he was suffering from any ailment.
Since the passing of his father, the late Alex Mbakwe has been the head of the revered family along with his mother, Lady Victoria Mbakwe, a former First Lady of the State, and sister, Patience.
Even though he was far from filling and/or stepping into his father’s shoes, politically, he had dabbled into politics.
In 2003, he picked the ticket of the Party for Social Democracy, PSD, as its Governorship Candidate, but made little or no impact.
In 2023, Alex, an Engineer, led his mother and other family members, to endorse Governor Hope Uzodimma for a second term in office.
During a condolence visit to the Mbakwe family at their Obowo, Imo State country home, a former Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ike Ibe, described the late Alex as his great friend, and brother whose death has left a painful void in his life.
Alex’s father, popular as “Dee Sam”, was the Governor of old Imo State from 1979 to 1983.
Funeral arrangements are yet to be announced.
