Nigeria’s Super Eagles recorded a 2-1 win over the Madagascar National Football Team in the 2027 Group L African Cup of Nations, AFCON, Qualifiers played at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
The Coach Eric Chelle team came from a goal down to record the victory.
The Madagascan took the lead in the 16th minute from a corner kick, headed home by Eshan.
Though, the Super Eagles took the game to their opponents, shooting from all cylinders, but this never resulted into a goal, until a sublime pass from Alex Iwobi located Super Eagles debutant, George Ilhenikina, who slotted home the equalizer to end the half 1-1.
The Super Eagles continued from where they left the game, possessing the ball, but failed to create any meaningful chance.
Goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali saved the blushes of the Nigerian Team, as he made a crucial one on one saves to keep the Super Eagles in the game.
Debutant substitute, Moses Usor, who replaced Samuel Chukwueze found the back of the net to give the Nigerian Team the lead, by outwitting two Madagascar defenders.
Several chances from Tolu Arokodare, Moses Simon and Taiwo Awoniyi went begging, as the team failed to add to their tally.
The game ended 2-1. The Super Eagles will now travel to Bissau to keep a date with Guinea Bissau in their second AFCON Qualifiers match next Tuesday.
