The 2027 African Democratic Congress, ADC Vice Presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso says the Obi/ Kwankwaso ticket, popularly known as’ OK’ represents the best opportunity for Nigerians to put the country on the path of unity and progress, if voted into office in next year’s presidential election.
Kwankwaso dismissed a remark by a former Governor of Borno state, Ali Modu Sheriff, to the effect that Peter Obi, the party’s presidential candidate has no electoral value in the north.
Sheriff made the remark on Monday, saying the region will not vote for Obi, who he described as a divisive element. He accused the former Anambra state governor of planning to divide the country is he becomes president.
He also accused Obi of treating northerners badly when he was governor, saying the North will punish him, by ensuring that they don’t vote for him next year.
The former Borno helmsman also slammed Obi of hobnobbing with IPOB, a secessionist group in the south east that, outlawed by the federal government, accusing the ADC presidential hopeful of deliberate refusing to criticized the group despite its violence in the region.
Speaking in a statement he shared on X on Wednesday, Kwankwaso said Sheriff’s remark is contrary to the reality in the north. According to the former governor of Kano state, Sheriff has been away for too long, and as such, is not in tune with what is currently on ground regarding the political situation in the North.
Kwankwaso also dismissed the suggestion that Obi is not popular in the region, citing the 2023 presidential election when the former Anambra helmsman got millions of vote from the region.
He explained that the fact that the ADC presidential candidate is in alliance with his political movement, the Kwankwassiya, has further strengthened his chances in the north ahead the 2027 election, saying whatever party the group supported will be supported by northerners.
“For the record, in his first outing on the presidential ballot, Mr Obi secured approximately 2.8 million votes in the region — a remarkable achievement that cannot be dismissed lightly,” he said.
Adding, “The good people of Kano are neither bigoted nor xenophobic. They have consistently demonstrated strong trust in the Kwankwasiyya movement and will support any credible ticket presented under its banner.”
Not a few political analysts have opined that the alliance between Obidient, Obi’s political movement and Kwankwassiya has the capacity to upset the apple’s cart during the 2027 presidential election.
