The Presidential Running Mate of the opposition African Democratic Congress, ADC, Rotimi Amaechi has dismissed the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike as belonging to the lower rung of the political ladder, and not deserving of being dignified with attention
The Source reports that Wike, who served as Amaechi’s Chief of Staff in Rivers State had, at his monthly media chat on Tuesday, questioned the choice of his former boss as the ADC presidential running mate ahead of the 2027 polls.
Wike had pointedly claimed that Amaechi ,who served as late President Mohammadu Buhari’s Minister of Transportation has no political clout in both Rivers state and the South South region to justify the political expectations of those who selected him as their presidential running mate.
This is as he maintained that Amaechi’s betrayal and frustration of the second term ambition of former president Goodluck Jonathan will surely hunt him both in Rivers state and the South South region.
” If you are choosing a vice-presidential candidate , the only factor that may have been considered in settling for Rotimi Amaechi by the ADC may be financial , because he does not have the capacity to deliver votes” Wike stated.
But on a Channels Television programme late Tuesday evening, Amaechi said he will not want to join issues with Wike, describing him as his ” political subordinate”
According to Amaechi,who served as Buhari’s Campaign Organization Director -General DG both in 2015 and 2019 election circles, Wike is not on the same political pedestrian with him, and, therefore, totally undeserving of any response both as a person, and in relation to his wild claims.
” I have told you several times; I don’t respond to my subordinates” Amaechi insisted.
Responding to the claims that both have served as Governors and Ministers at different times, Amaechi remained adamant about Wike being a subordinate he hired politically.
“On that hand, Wike never hired me, I hired him”, Amaechi noted .
Pressed further for a response, the former Governor of Rivers State retorted: “Please stop that. Focus on why I am here . I am here to discuss my faith . Don’t take me to politics”
He emphasized that he is currently mourning the passing of his mother, and therefore will not want to engage in any political banters.
He assured that he will be ready to respond accordingly when the whistle is blown for the commencement of actual political race .
” By the time we finish mourning, and we go into campaign, anybody who insults me, I will respond. You will get me when I am ready. I am not ready now” he added.
According to Amaechi, his mission to the hot seat of the television station was simply to tell the presidency to show a little respect and restraint in its dealings with the Catholic Church, and its leaders ,as well as to stop insulting Christians all because of political ambition.
