This is with regards to your posting that the mother of triplets is a scammer. I am appalled and dismayed at this piece. I am from this young lady’s village. It is not in dispute whether she had the triplets or not. We have verified the veracity of her claim.
What does it matter whether she was raped or not?
First, no one can categorically answer that question. No one was present when the act was done. Immaterial, anyway. This is the very reason that victims of rape are reluctant to come forward. No one believes them. Also, are you saying that someone who has been pregnant in the past cannot be raped?
Again, I ask, what does it matter whether she was raped or not?
The focus should be on the three innocent, helpless children. The story of their birth is a miracle. To be pregnant and not know that you are going to have triplets, shows that there was no prenatal care. There is a great need here. She is from an extremely poor background, sleeping on the floor with her mother in a dilapidated house with leaking roof. The care of these three children will be an economic challenge for the young mother.
No one is obligated to help her, but no one has the right to malign her. Let us address the real issues here – the great need for affordable medical care, especially antenatal care. Nigeria is ranked extremely high in infant mortality rate in the world.
Let us not play politics with this important health crisis. She needs help. Period. Assist, if you can or leave it alone. I will be happy to post pictures and other verified information.

Dear Vivien,
It is IMPORTANT for you to know that it was not our story per se.; That the allegation concerning her alleged false claim of rape DID NOT EMANATE from us ; That we had, a day earlier, carried her story, as narrated by her.
That the next day, we only carried a reaction to the story by somebody from her community, who knows her very well, and had already sent money to help her situation, but deplored her claim of rape, telling her she lied on that score.
It might interest you to know that a couple of the help she has received, so far, emanated from the first story we carried, and the personal contact we made to individuals and, in our own way, to a caring government.
It is important that you and other commentators understand the sequence.
Rape or no Rape, we believe that a 20-year old unmarried, and underprivileged woman, who gave birth to Triplets definitely needs help. But should also be reprimanded if her claim of rape is false.
Incidentally, we neither judged, not reprimanded her. We only carried an observation by somebody who helped her.
We are, also, happy to have drawn people’s attention to her without making any noise about it. And would do so again, as we have always done, without making it public, given the same circumstances.
