Members of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU, and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions, NASU, have declared a seven-day warning strike.

The Associations directed their members to embark on the strike from March 18 over non-payment of some arrears of salaries by the federal government.

According to a memorandum issued by the unions, they decided to go on strike because the government had paid the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, but refused to pay them.

The two unions said in a memo signed by the National President of SSANU, Mohammed Ibrahim, and the General Secretary of NASU, Peters Adeyemi, that the strike was necessary because the government has failed to listed to them.

They wondered why ASUU was paid their withheld salaries while their members were shunned by the federal government.

Addressing their members in all the branches across the country, the unions directed them to ensure “Your strict compliance and adherence to this directive are mandatory for all NASU and SSANU branches in universities and inter-university centres.”
