Umahi Names Ebonyi State Airport After Buhari, Flight Operations Begin

Out going Ebonyi State Governor, Engr. Dave Umahi, has named the Ebonyi State International Airport after President Muhammadu Buhari.

The Airport, located at Onueke, was built by the Umahi Administration.

The Federal Government has granted approval to the State for an inaugural flight.

This was disclosed on Wednesday to Reporters by Mrs Obianuju Aloh, Umahi’s Senior Special Assistant on Aviation and Technology.

Even though she did not disclose the date for the inaugural flight, she said each Local Government Area in the State has been asked to nominate six persons who will be on the inaugural flight. The bill will be picked by the State Government.

Two flights, she said, would land at the Airport, one each from Abuja and Lagos. After the inaugural flights, two flights will land every week from both Abuja and Lagos. With  operations at the Airport open, Alor said the economy of the State would get a big boost.

Her words: “We are going to have two flights landing at the airport, one from Abuja and another from Lagos.

“And subsequently, two flights will be landing every week, coming from Abuja and Lagos. What it means is that, with the airport inauguration, Ebonyi state is open for business.

“We want to encourage all Ebonyians and investors to come to Ebonyi and do their business. Ebonyi will now start exporting agricultural products to the entire world.

“International airlines will soon be coming to Ebonyi sta3te, and when they come, they will employ the people of the State and the local community will benefit so much from it.”

Umahi, like his set of Governors, will leave office on May 29, 2023.
