The killing field that Enugu state has become in recent times received a boost recently as a pregnant woman was murdered in Enugu with her belly ripped open by suspected Fulani herdsmen-a situation that, again, sparked off protests in the coal city.

The woman, Pat Ngwu from Ndiuno Nchatancha community in Emene, Enugu, was said to have been abducted in her farmland. Her corpse was, however, found in a bush near a river the following day.

As usual, the state government condemned the dastardly act. Critics of the government believe that it will be business as usual until the next murder, since Enugu is now allegedly the security weak link of the South east. The Governor is alleged to have the predilection to dither.

“We condole with the family of the deceased and hereby charge the security agencies to commence a full scale investigation into the unfortunate incident with a view to apprehending and prosecuting the culprits”,the government said.

After a frantic search, the woman’s body was found dumped near Asata river.

Protests were spontaneous, and Abakiliki road, the major exit road from Enugu to Ebonyi, was said to have been blocked.
