The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, has ventured into Nigeria’s ride-hailing and smart mobility business with the launch of Ojaja Ride, expanding his growing business interests beyond real estate and urban development.
The new venture, operated under Ojaja Smart Mobility Ltd, focuses on electric vehicle solutions, software and hardware development, ride-hailing, fleet management and mobility technology.
Instructively, the Ooni established Ojaja Smart Mobility Ltd only a few weeks after global ride-hailing giant, Uber, announced its exit from Nigeria’s intercity transport business, creating fresh opportunities in the country’s evolving mobility sector.
The timing of the Ooni’s move, business analysts insists, has therefore attracted attention, coming as it does at a period of significant changes in Nigeria’s transportation industry, with technology increasingly playing a major role in how Nigerians move around cities.
Ojaja Ride is expected to compete in the country’s growing ride-hailing market, while also focusing on electric mobility and other technology-driven transportation solutions.
Ooni’s Business Empire
The launch of Ojaja Ride adds another venture to the Ooni’s growing business portfolio.
Long before ascending the throne of Ife, Oba Ogunwusi had established himself as an entrepreneur, with significant interests in real estate and property development.
One of the major projects associated with the monarch is Ojaja Smart City, a major real estate and urban development initiative launched by the Ooni.
The project reflects the monarch’s long-standing interest in property development, infrastructure and modern urban communities.
Over the years, the Ooni has continued to pursue business interests across different sectors, with his entrepreneurial activities extending beyond traditional real estate.
With Ojaja Ride, he is now taking that expansion into Nigeria’s transportation and mobility sector.
Entering A Competitive Market
Ojaja Ride is entering a highly competitive ride-hailing market dominated by established platforms and local mobility operators.
However, its focus on electric vehicles, fleet management and mobility technology could give the new platform a distinct proposition.
The electric vehicle component is particularly significant as Nigeria gradually explores cleaner and more energy-efficient transportation alternatives.
The venture also comes as demand for convenient and technology-driven transportation services continues to grow, particularly in major Nigerian cities.
According to sources close to the monarch, Ojaja Ride represents more than another commercial venture. It marks an expansion of his entrepreneurial interests from real estate and urban development into technology and smart transportation.
