Amidst growing domestic criticisms over its perceived mishandling of some governance issues , especially the festering security challenges ,the President Bola Tinubu-led administration has received a significant international validation from President Donald Trump of the United States of America, USA.
A statement on Monday ,from Bayo Onanuga , Presidential spokesman, informed that President Trump has formally written to commend his Nigerian counterpart over what he described as ” decisive leadership on behalf of the people”.
According to Onanuga , the USA President expressed satisfaction with the Nigerian Government’s approach in tackling some challenges facing the country, particularly the violent attacks on Christians .
Trump also appreciated the cordial and mutually beneficial collaborative efforts with the Nigerian Government especially in the area of the fight against insurgency and terrorism activities.
The USA President was quoted as further expressing the optimism that the growing understanding between the two countries would lead to a more prosperous and stronger Nigeria.
Trump, apparently in response to Tinubu’s letter to him: “Thank you for your thoughtful letter. Your kind words mean a great deal to me, and I appreciate your decisive leadership on behalf of the Nigerian people.
“I applaud your resolve to tackle the issues plaguing your nation , especially the violence affecting Christian communities, and it is a true honor to stand with you in the fight against terrorists and to make the Federal Republic of Nigeria stronger and more prosperous.
“The United States- Nigeria relationship is crucial at a time when conflict has spread across West Africa ,and around the world.
“We both share a mutual goal of confronting terrorism in all its forms, and our historic US-Nigeria 2026 Defence Cooperation Roadmap has established a robust framework to accomplish this feat.
“I am proud to have deployed the United States Special Operation Forces –among the most elite military units anywhere in the world — to equip the brave men and women in the Armed Forces of Nigeria with skills, tools, and intelligence they need to protect your homeland and ensure the safety and security of citizens, particularly those of faith who have been under attack.
“I look forward to our continued discussions over the course of my Presidency”, Trump wrote.
The Source reports that the collaborative efforts in the area of defence between the two countries has seen the USA involving in the battle to whittle down the activities of insurgents and other terrorist elements.
In one of its major military operations in Nigerian on Nigerian soil ,the USA, on 2025 Christmas Eve, targeted terrorist hideouts in the Sokoto/Kebbi axis with a significant number of neutrallsed.
The military cooperation was also instrumental to the elimination of some major Boko Haram/ISWAP Commanders in the North East region of Nigeria.
