The execution of Brigadier-General Musa Uba, by terrorists has finally been confirmed by no less an authority than the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Bola Tinubu.
There has been confusion and doubts over the fate of the General who was the Commanding Officer of the 25 Task Force Brigade.
The fallen Officer had led his troops to route out terrorist elements along the Damboa-Biu axis of Borno State, but they were ambushed and overwhelmed by the terrorists. A number of soldiers were killed and even though the Brigadier-General had managed to escape with his wounded leg, made contacts with his colleagues, explained his whereabouts, gave directions to where, and waited to be picked, he was sadly tracked and captured by the terrorists while he was waiting to be picked up.
Thereafter, he was interrogated by them and executed.
Initial reports of his capture and execution were strongly denied by the Army which Spokesperson warned against spreading false information. It, instead, insisted that the senior officer had successfully led his troops back to base.
However, a lie was put to the claims by the Army when the terrorists released the photograph of Brigadier-General Uba in their custody.
Apparently, the Army spoke too soon, relying on the initial contact made by Uba before he was captured and executed. Since the release of Uba’s picture in their custody, and the video of his execution, the Army has neither confirmed nor denied the sad incident.
However, on Tuesday evening, President Tinubu confirmed the execution of the senior officer and described it as tragic.
In a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President mourned Uba and other fallen soldiers. He also decried the abduction of 25 female students of a Secondary School in Kebbi and the killing of their Vice Principal despite earlier intelligence warning of the abduction plot. It is heartbreaking, the President said.
Tinubu: “As Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, I am deeply saddened by the tragic deaths of our soldiers and officers on active duty. May God comfort the families of Brigadier-General Musa Uba and other fallen heroes.
“It is heartbreaking that terrorists have disrupted the education of innocent school girls. I have directed Security Agents to act swiftly to bring the girls back to Kebbi State.
Brigadier-General Musa goes down as tye highest ranking Military Officer in Nigeria to be captured and executed by the rampaging terrorists.
