Tinubu Approves 80 Percent Pay Rise For Armed Forces

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a new salary increases for the Nigerian Armed Forces. The pay rise, under which the personnel of the Army, Airforce and Nay will benefit,  ranges from 30 to 80 per cent, according to a statement from the Presidency.

The statement signed by Bayo Onanuga,  the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, said the salary increase is part of the administration’s efforts to appreciate the military personnel for defending the country from aggression.

According to checks, a total of  250,000 officer and men are expected to benefit from the new pay rise, which will take effect from September 1, 2026.

Instructively, a  recruit in the Armed Forces receives N100,000 monthly salary before the current increase.

The statement noted that officers above the rank of colonel, including brigadier-generals, major-generals, lieutenant-generals and generals, will receive a 30 per cent salary increase.

Personnel from the rank of colonel down to warrant officer will receive a 50 per cent increase, while personnel from private to staff sergeant will benefit from an 80 per cent increase.

President Tinubu stated that the increase has shown that his administration’s, take seriously the welfare of military personnel who are involved in combating banditry, kidnapping and terrorism across the country, adding that the government will continue to support the military.

“The men and women who help to keep us safe in our homes must be supported and appreciated in the course of their duties to our nation,” the President said.

The president added that the government would continue to provide necessary weapons and platforms required by the military to perform their duty of defending the country from internal and external aggression.

“Our administration believes that no nation can achieve greatness without security. We therefore remain resolute in mobilising all military and law enforcement assets to eliminate security threats and protect the lives and property of all Nigerians, he said.

“I urge our servicemen to take our gesture as a sign of our deep appreciation of the services they render to our fatherland. Together we shall prevail over the enemies intent on destroying the fabric of our nation.”
