Tension As Gunmen Kill Four Herdsmen In Awka Cattle Camp

The Anambra’ Police Command has vowed to hunt down and serve justice to all those involved in the gruesome killing of four  herdsmen in the State.

 

This is as the national leadership of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association MACBAN urged members resident in Anambra State to remain calm and refrain from resorting to self help.

 

The Source reports that some armed hoodlums in the early hours of Tuesday July, 21 ,2026 allegedly invaded a cattle rearing settlement in Ifite  Awka community ,Awka South Local Council of Anambra’ state killing four siblings, and several cattle.

 

A statement from the Deputy National Leader of MACBAN, Gidado Siddiki the assailants informed that the assailants allegedly struck while the victims  were tendering their cattle at the camp said to belong to one Aminu Mohammed.

According to  Mohammed, the attackers who took the herders by surprise, fired sporadically, killing the four brothers on the spot, with one of the herders , Usman Iliyasu escaping the onslaught

 

The MACBAN leader disclosed that several cattle were equally  killed during the attack.

 

Those killed were  Mohammed Bujumi , Hassan Bujumi, Abubakar Bujumi and Sani Bujumi.

 

While appreciating the swift intervention of security operatives in halting the senseless attack, the umbrella body of herders urged immediate action on the part of the Anambra State Government to fish out the culprits, as well as put in place adequate measures to protect law abiding citizens and residents.

The MACBAN also strongly condemned the attack with a call on all relevant security agencies to launch an investigation into the unfortunate development.

 

“The MACBAN strongly condemns this heinous and senseless attack and calls on all relevant security agencies to immediately investigate the incident., apprehend the perpetrators ,and bring them to justice”

 

“We sincerely appreciate the prompt response of the Joint Task Force ,and the Anambra State Government for their swift intervention ,and efforts in recovering the bodies of the deceased .

 

“The timely action is commendable ,and demonstrates their commitment to maintaining peace and security” Mohammed stated.

 

The Police Command spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, while reacting, condemned the attack and the dastardly killing of the herders in their camp.

He revealed that the State Commissioner of Police  has directed an immediate and comprehensive inquest into the incident with a view to apprehending the perpetrators.

 

He also confirmed that four cattle were found lifeless by security operatives who visited the scene with several sacks containing large chunks of meat also recovered within the area.

 

The Police called on residents to maintain the peace, and volunteer credible information that can lead to the interception of those responsible for the horrible act.
