A former, Director of Defence Information, Major-General Rabe Abubakar rtd, has been abducted by suspected terrorist elements.
General Abubakar was abducted alongside his wife on Saturday, while traveling to the Katsina, the Katsina State capital from his home Local Council of Matazu.
They were said to have been ambushed, attacked and whisked away by the hoodlums into a nearby forest.
Some local witness accounts informed that his driver, however managed to escape with gunshots injuries.
“The former Director of Defence Information and his wife were traveling in a red Peugeot 406 saloon car, when they were ambushed, and intercepted by armed men along the route
“The driver escaped with gunshot injuries, and is currently receiving medical attention” a local witness volunteered.
According to the source, security agencies and all other relevant authorities have been duly briefed on the unfortunate incident. Coordinated operations are said to be underway to track, and rescue the victims unhurt.
Security operatives, the source further hinted, have embarked on intensive search-and-rescue operations, with massive intelligence assets said to have been deployed.
Abubakar’s abduction is the second reported incident involving a high profile military officer in Katsina, coming after the infamous kidnap of a former Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps NYSC, retired Brigadier-General Maharazu Tsiga in 2025.
