Super Eagles Player, Akinkunmi Amao Sentenced To 12 Months Imprisonment In Denmark

Super Eagles invitee and Golden Eaglets Player at the 2019 FIFA Under-17 World Cup in Peru, Akinkunmi Amao, has been sentenced to a one year imprisonment by a Danish Court for sexually assaulting three women in Denmark.

In September 2022, Amao was arrested by the Danish Police in Copenhagen for sexually assaulting a woman but was released on Bail in October.

He was, however, charged to Court and faced trial at the Copenhagen District Court on three counts of charges which are: rape in a se$ual violations of two other women.

Last Friday, June 23, 2023, Amao was found guilty of all the charges and a dissenting Magistrate sentenced him to one year of imprisonment.

He has also been restricted from entering Denmark for at least six-years.

The 21-year-old right-winger is said to be ready to appeal the judgment but the date when the appeal will commence has not been made public yet.

Amao had joined Copenhagen Football Club from Hammarby Football Club in Sweden jointly owned by Veteran retired Footballer, Zlatan Ibrahimovic  for a transfer fee worth €4.30 million on January 31, 2022.

Since then, he has managed to make just one appearance for the club’s senior team, as his playing time has been restricted due to ruptured knee ligament injury.
