The Presidency has attacked the media over what it described as false presentation of what is happening in the country, saying the economy has improved contrary to what’s being reported to the public.
For instance, the Nigerian government said the price of food items has crashed in the market, a pointer that the situation of the economy has improved tremendously.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media and Information, Bayo Onanuga made the assertion in a post he shared on his verified X page on Friday, adding that the president is poised to take the country to a better place considering what he has done so far by laying a strong foundation for the nation’s future.
Onanuga stated further that the nation’s economy has started attracting foreign capital due to the president’s management of the economy, noting also that the nation’s foreign reserved has spiked to $60 billion under the incumbent administration.
In spite of the apparent improvement, the presidential aide said negative narrative are being pushed to the public by the media, saying the media can make an unbiased reportage of the situation in the country by simply visiting the market to see for themselves that things have improved.
His post read: “TV anchors keep pushing the opposition’s narrative that nothing has changed, positively, indeed, massively, since 2023. Their position has become so ridiculous that they keep parroting the old narrative, and now they question the NBS data on receding inflation. I will advise them to revisit the markets. Food prices are crashing.
“The favourite rice that at a time was selling for N120k a bag has crashed below N50k. In my hometown, a bag now sells for N45K. Under President Tinubu, Nigeria is making tremendous progress. Thirty-three governors cannot be wrong in casting their support for President Tinubu. Our reserves are close to $60 billion. Nigerians are now able to use their Naira cards abroad, something that was impossible before Tinubu’s presidency.
“Businesspeople can now buy the forex they need to import raw materials and equipment. Investors are coming back, not mainly as portfolio investors, as some anchors claim, even though Nigerians dominate the stock market, accounting for almost 90 per cent.
‘’These investors belong in the category of FDI. They bring money into our economy and create jobs. These facts are clear to anyone not blinded by partisanship and hatred for the leader who has laid a solid foundation for the economy and is poised to take the nation to a higher level of shared prosperity.”
Meanwhile, not a few Nigerians have pushed back on the administration over claim that the economy has improved.
Many Nigerians insist that they are yet to see significant improvement in their daily lives.
