Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore has condemned the arrest of one Mubarak Abdullahi, also known as Sardaunan Samari, by the Department of State Services, DSS.
Sowore said in a statement he shared on his verified X post that the DSS has become an instrument of oppression by the Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, which he said will soon be thrown out office and made to account for its misdeeds.
Abdullahi was arrested few days ago by the nation’s Secret Police for purportedly circulating a fake letter from President Tinubu to United States President, Donald Trump.
He has since been arraigned by the DSS but his day of trial has yet to be determined by the court which, on Monday, ordered his remand in prison in Kaduna before his trial.
According to a social media post by Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, who shared Abdullahi’s arraignment in court in his verified X handle on Monday, the accuse is being prosecuted by the DSS for publishing a false letter about the president.
Onanuga also described Abdulahi as one of the supporters of Atiku Abubakar, the Presidential CandidAte of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, saying the accused admitted to investigators that he shared the fake document about the president, and has apologised for his actions.
The president’s spokesperson said he’s being prosecuted under a three-count charge bordering on cybercrime and defamation preferred against him at the Federal High Court, Kaduna by the DSS.
Reacting, Sowore, the Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress AAC accused the administration of oppressing the accused for nothing , saying the DSS is now being used as an instrument of harassment for the government.
“How low will you go, #OfficialAPCNg and the #officialABAT regime? How on earth do you reduce a national security agency like the #OfficialDSSNG to a mere vacuum cleaner, deployed to sweep up dissenting voices in your inordinate ambition to subdue every citizen simply because you are afraid to face the Nigerian people and account for your disastrous reign?
“Arresting a hapless citizen for posting a document online – sad! Shame on all of you! A day of reckoning is coming, when you too will be held accountable for your actions. That day is coming sooner than you think. Very soon!” Sowore said.
Meanwhile, neither Abubakar nor his media office has reacted to the claim that Abdullahi is one of his supporters.
