Senator Godswill Akpabio has emerged the Senate President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The former Akwa Ibom state governor defeated Abdullaziz Yari, a former Governor of Zamfara state by 63 votes to his opponent’s who scored 46 votes to clinch the position, according to the results announced by the Clerk of the Senate.
Two contestants, Orji Uzor Kalu and Osita Izunaso had earlier dropped out of the race before the election commenced this morning at the National Assembly Chamber in Abuja.
