Palpable shock, tension and disbelief have enveloped Kaduna State and its neighouring Northwest states as news of the abduction of over 200 staff and pupils of Kuriga Primary School in Chukun Local Council hit residents .
The kidnap incident which has been perceived by not a few as the most audacious in recent times ,was said to have been masterminded by scores of bandits in the early hours of Thursday March 7 2024 ,who were believed to have stormed a LEA primary School ,while the routine morning devotional service was on going.
Although ,various figures ranging from 200 to 230 ,are being touted as the number of victims involved in the chilly abduction saga, Spokesperson for the Kaduna State police Command Masir Hasan insists that the actual number of victims remain unknown.
He has however assured that the Kaduna state police Command ,in concert with other sister security agencies in the state are working towards rescuing the kidnapped pupils,their teachers and all other victims unhurt .
Unconfirmed reports have indicated that the victims of the bandits abduction ,may have also included students from two schools in the troubled Kuriga area who were temporarily relocated to the affected primary school ,after their schools were closed about two years ago because of the activities of bandits and other criminal elements.
Meanwhile The Source reports that following the kuriga abduction incident ,security operatives in the neighbouring states of Kano and Katsina in particular have been placed on high alert.
This according to an impeccable security source ,is to serve both as a proactive measure and for the purpose of gathering and sharing credible intelligence that can assist in resolving the Kaduna abduction saga .
As at the time of reporting no official statement from the police and or any other security outfits had been issued
