Still in the mood of celebration following the release of the abducted school children and teachers in Oyo state, the state chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, (NUT) has announced the kidnap of a headmaster in Itesiwaju local
government.
The union, in a statement on Monday, disclosed that Mr. M.K. Owoade, the Headmaster of Nomadic Basic School, Ogodu, Igbojaye, was reportedly kidnapped on his farmland on Saturday 11th July, 2026 at around 5pm.
The statement was jointly signed by the State Chairman of the NUT, Hassan Ajibola Fatai, and the State Secretary, Salami Olukayode.
According to the statement, the incident was brought to the attention of the state leadership by the NUT Itesiwaju Local Government branch through an urgent notice issued to its members.
The union described the development as disturbing and another reminder of the growing security challenges facing teachers and education workers across the country.
The NUT leadership called on government, security agencies, and relevant authorities to intensify efforts towards securing the immediate rescue of the abducted headmaster and ensuring the safety of teachers and all citizens within the communities and their workplaces.
While expressing solidarity with the family, colleagues, and pupils of the victim, the union prayed for his safe return and urged members to remain vigilant.
The union prayed that God would protect citizens from insecurity and grant the abducted headmaster a quick and safe return.
The 60-year-old educator, popularly known as “Onaiye,” was reportedly seized on Saturday evening between 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. while returning from his farm.
According to his son, Abiola Owoade, the attackers intercepted his father on his way home and whisked him away to an unknown destination.
The abductors later contacted the family using the victim’s mobile phone and demanded N30 million before he would be released.
Hope of tracing the victim received a slight boost on Sunday morning when a search party reportedly discovered his abandoned motorcycle in a nearby bush at about 8:20 a.m.
Family members have appealed to the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and other security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue the headmaster safely and bring those responsible to justice.
The family also urged members of the public with useful information that could aid the rescue operation to come forward.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Oyo State Police Command, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, said the victim was abducted while at his farm in Budo Aare.
“I can confirm to you that a farmer, Mr. Owoade Matthew, was kidnapped at his farm in Budo Aare, and efforts are on to rescue the man unhurt and arrest the perpetrator,” Ayanlade stated
