Rivers APC Pushes For Consensus Gov. Candidate As Wike’s Ally Withdraws

A known ally within the political camp of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has officially withdrawn from the All Progressives Congress, APC governorship primary election in Rivers state.

Report revealed that the withdrawal of Dr George-Kelly, who is the third person to quit the governorship contest is to pave way for the emergence of a consensus candidates.

The primary election is currently taking place in 34 states, except Ekiti and osun states where off season poll will be holding June and August respectively.

Stakeholders in Rivers state have been increasingly pushing for a consensus arrangement ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement personally signed and released, George-Kelly said his decision followed wide consultations with his political supporters and stakeholders after a high-level meeting convened by the national leadership of the party.
