Alleged Forgery: Court Remands Fmr SDP Chairman, Gabam

Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam - SDP Chairman

By Ayodele Oni

A Chief Magistrate Court in Abuja has adjourned hearing in the charges of criminal misappropriation, breach of trust, and forgery involving party funds leveled against former Social Democratic Party, (SDP) chairman, Shehu Gabam.

This is just as the Court ordered his remand, following request by the prosecution for time to respond to the defendants’ bail application

Gabam was arraigned Tuesday alongside Chukwuma Ogbonna Uchechukwu in suit No. DCC/10/2026, filed by current SDP National Chairman Dr. Sadiq Abubakar under the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015.

Chief Magistrate Amauche Onyedium remanded Gabam and adjourned the case to May 25 for further hearing.

Abubakar said the party turned to the court after petitions to the police, EFCC, ICPC, DSS, and INEC yielded no action.

He alleged that documents linked to two bank accounts showed transactions of about N740 million, far above the N32 million the party recorded during the period under review.

The SDP suspended Gabam, Uchechukwu, and National Auditor Clarkson Nnadi in June 2025 over alleged financial misconduct.

An internal disciplinary committee later recommended their expulsion, which the National Working Committee adopted.

Some state chairmen have accused the former leadership of diverting close to N1 billion in party funds

Your Excellency, Countryman,

I want to express my deep gratitude for your leadership.

An a time when our nation was losing its way, you stepped forward with uncommon courage, moral clarity, and the kind of political character people rarely see.

You didn’t simply manage problems, you saw possibilities where others saw only decline, and you inspired a tired nation to hope again.

As the Great White Shark, you lived true to your name: singular in purpose, relentless in pursuit of what was right, and unafraid to cut through uncertainty when everything else was floundering.

Your title, Ofurumapepe (The Great White Shark)  is not just a metaphor, it is a testament to how you led, to how you lead.

Thank you for giving your time, your voice, and your conviction to something bigger than yourself.

You rekindled belief in what our nation could be, and that legacy will endure. The universe will be kind to you.

With much respect and appreciation.

*Ms Arinze, a Barrister-at-Law, sent in this tribute to appreciate Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, a former Governor of Bayelsa State, for having the courage to found the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, which has, within such a short time, become the main opposition party in Nigeria*

Kwankwasiyya, Obidient Groups Set Atiku On Fire  Over Anti-South  Presidential Ticket

Atiku Abubakar

By Adesina Soyooye

Atiku desperation has beclouded him – Kwankwasiyya

Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has been roasted by opposition political parties over his comments that it is not possible for a Southern Presidential Candidate to defeat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general election.

Recall that Atiku had taken an exception to the zoning of the Presidential seat by opposition Parties to the South. He vehemently warned against it, and   argued that while it is okay for the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, to retain its zoning arrangement in the south with  President Tinubu as its candidate it would be politically naive and unwise for the opposition to choose same Zone for its candidate. According to Atiku, it is akin to handing Tinubu victory on a platter of gold.

But both the Kwankwasiyya and Obidient Movements strongly disagree with the former Vice President position.

They dismissed Atiku’s  argument in an interview with The Punch as “politically narrow, divisive and inconsistent with the country’s power-sharing understanding.”

Habibu Muhammed, spokesman for the Kwankwasiyya Movement, dismissed  Atiku’s stand as “insulting and divisive.”

He said “I believe Atiku is only talking for himself. I think his desperation is such that he could not even hide it or give it a different colour.

“To me, that statement is insulting. It is like saying there is no qualified person other than yourself in all the States in the South.

“The former Vice President has continued to showcase some kind of primordial thoughts. This does not actually relate to someone who has experience, once ran with a Southerner, worked with Southerners and even married a Southerner.

“If you begin to echo out what you personally believe that loudly, to me, it is insulting. It means he actually wanted to promote something else, not national unity.

“He was trying to arm people who already don’t see anything good in the South. He is just giving them ammunition to continue to amplify the hatred and defy the division that is already there.

“What we need now is a ticket that will bring unity to this country, calm nerves and make people generally feel at home.

“Whether we like it or not, it is already part of us, and it is within our consciousness that it is only natural when a Northerner serves a term of eight years. He gives way for a Southerner also to do the same.

“So the best thing for now is to actually give another Southerner the chance and Nigerians the opportunity to choose from the same zone. At least, they have a choice to go for someone who may actually lessen their pain or who may change the way things are.”

In Labour Party’s response, its National Publicity Secretary, Ken Asogwa, dismissed Atiku’s stand, and insisted that the 2023 presidential election  already made nonsense of the argument that a Southern opposition candidate could not defeat another southerner.

Asogwa: “With due respect to the former Vice President and the experience he has garnered in Nigerian politics over the past three decades, I am sorry to say that he got his permutation wrong.

“Even going by what transpired in 2023, the analysis is flawed. We had two strong Southern candidates, alongside pockets of support for other Southern candidates, yet a Southerner still emerged victorious.

“The combined votes of the two northern candidates in that election – Atiku (6.9m votes) and Kwankwaso (1.4m votes) – were still less than what one southern candidate – Tinubu (8.7m votes) – got in the election.

“More importantly, the permutation is built on the erroneous assumption that regional origin is the only factor that determines voting behaviour in Nigeria. It ignores the prevailing national mood and the deeper considerations that shape electoral choices.

“For instance, a voter from the Middle Belt is likely to vote based on what each candidate’s presidency represents for the security, inclusion, and stability of their region.

“And as we know, the Middle Belt is not merely a geographical region; it is an identity that cuts across the three geopolitical zones in the North.

“Therefore, with due respect, His Excellency Atiku Abubakar’s argument is pedestrian,” he said.

National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide, Yunusa Tanko, said Obi and Kwankwaso moved to the NDC after discovering plans to entangle the ADC in litigations that could deny them presidential tickets.

“It is very important to go out and educate those who do not know why Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso moved from the ADC to the NDC.

“They put up a booby-trap so that by the time they are in there (ADC), they will close the gap using litigation and ensure that they do not have a ticket.

“But God made it possible for us to see the danger ahead of them. So, we provided an alternative, which is the NDC. The door of the NDC is open to us. Let us move en masse and build the party. Let’s get a ticket for Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso.

“They have the wherewithal. They are young, have capacity, consistent, character, accountable and have compassion.”

Atiku Kicks As Ex-Federal Law Maker Dies In Kidnappers Den, Blames Tinubu’s Govt

Atiku Abubakar

By Suleiman  Anyalewechi

Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has expressed serious concern over the worsening insecurity in the country. Atiku expressed this concern as he mourned the death of a former House of Representatives member, Honourable Abba Anas Adamu in the hands of suspected terrorists elements.

Hon Adamu, a former Lawmaker who represented Guri/Kirikasama Federal Constituency of Jigawa State, was abducted on the ever-busy Kaduna/Abuja Highway on May 3, 2026, by bandits.

He however, died in the  terrorists’ den in the early hours of Tuesday May,12, 2026,  while his family members, relations, friends and associates were rallying round for his safe rescue.

In a statement on Tuesday by Frank Shaiubu,  his spokesperson, Atiku described the tragic and terrifying death of the  former Legislator in the hands of terrorists as a stark reminder of the new low the security situation in the country has descended.

According to Atiku, the kidnap and subsequent death of the former Lawmaker represents a damning verdict on the failure of  President Bola Tinubu’s administration in providing adequate protection for the citizenry.

Honourable Abba Anas Adamu

Atiku ,a prominent figure in the opposition Coalition platform, the African Democratic Congress, ADC, and one of its leading Presidential hopefuls, accused the President Tinubu-led Federal Government of Nigeria of gross failure in discharging one of its sacred constitutional duties to the people.

“His (Hon Adamu) death is yet another grim reminder of the worsening collapse of security under the Tinubu’s administration.

“Let us be brutally honest; Nigeria is under siege ,and the Tinubu’s administration appears either overwhelmed, indifferent, or dangerously incompetent in the face of this national emergency.

“When a  former member of the National Assembly can be abducted on one of the country’s most strategic highways ,and die in captivity, what hope remains for the ordinary Nigerian who lacks visibility, influence or protection.

“This is no longer about isolated incidents. It is now a horrifying pattern. Nigerias are being kidnapped from highways, farms, communities, even their homes, while the Government continues to issue sterile statements, and recycled assurances that bear no resemblance to the lived reality of our people” Atiku stated.

The former Vice president regretted that under the Tinubu administration, insecurity has disturbingly evolved from a crisis to a cruel and embarrassing national routine.

According to him, while citizens now travel with prayers instead of protection, families sleep with only one eye closed.

He expressed serious concern that businesses and economic activities have been forced to close down, and farmers desert their farmlands on account of the worsening insecurity in the country.

Atiku emphasized that a government that has failed woefully in securing the lives and properties of its people cannot, in all honesty, claim to be in existence.

President Bola Tinubu
President Bola Tinubu

“A Government that cannot secure its highways cannot claim to govern. A Government that watches citizens get hunted like prey has failed the most elementary test of leadership.

“It is particularly tragic that the Abuja-Kaduna corridor and surrounding routes have remained notorious theatres of terror despite repeated promises, security budgets running into trillions, and endless propaganda.about progress.

“Nigerians deserve answers. What exactly is the security strategy of this administration? Where is the urgency? Where is accountability? How many more deaths must be recorded before this Government realises that press releases.do not defeat bandits”, Atiku noted .

Finally, he extended his heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased, the people of Jigawa State and Nigerians over the painful loss.

A former governor of Kano state, Rabiu Kwankwaso has disclosed the neglect he suffered under the administration of Muhammadu Buhari despite giving him two million votes during the 2025 presidential election. The former minister said he alongside his supporters suffered under the Buhari’s government despite their overwhelming support to ensure that he won that historic election.

The former New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP Presidential candidate who recently joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC made the remark on Monday in Arise Television, saying the former Nigerian leader failed to compensate or recognised his efforts to ensure that he won the presidential election that year.

The leader of the Kwankwassiya Movement said the development left him and his teeming supporters very frustrated and disappointed, because they felt abandoned after all they did for Buhari, who, that year surprised bookmakers by defeating the incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan.

Kwankwanso said he worked so “hard”  and put his life in danger to ensure victory for Buhari , stressing that he was later forgotten as soon as the latrer rose to power.

“I worked so hard. We brought about 1.9, almost 2 million votes. But as politicians, we are not recognised. We put our lives even on the line at that time, “ he said.

Adding that “Unfortunately, we could not see any benefit either as individuals or the constituencies that we represented.”

The magazine reports that the former Kano helmsman has now teamed up with the 2023 Labour Party, LP Presidential candidate, Peter Obi to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election.

LP Reflects On Peter Obi, Says He Is Sorely Missed By Party

Peter Obi
Mr Peter Obi

By Ayodele Oni

Labour Party has reflected  Peter Obi’s influence and his aftermath departure from the party, acknowledging that the exit of the former presidential candidate, has created what it described as a significant vacuum within its ranks.

The party’s Public Secretary, Ken Asogwa, made the remark during an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily.

“We can’t close our eyes to the fact that we lost Peter Obi; he was a colossus within the party. The last time I came here, I remember saying that his departure left a void in the party.”

According to him, the party had anticipated the development before Obi eventually exited.

“We lost a colossus within the party, but the party envisaged it. Remember that before his departure, the rumour was already out there that he was leaving, and he eventually left on the 31st of December,” he added.

Obi, who flew the Labour Party flag in the 2023 presidential election, first left for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in December 2025 and later moved to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), citing internal disputes as part of his reason for switching platforms.

Despite the setback, Asogwa insisted that the party has begun rebuilding, saying it has returned to the “drawing board” to reorganise its structure and membership base.

“We discover that the greatest potential the Labour Party has is the institutional members it has in the name of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC).

“The former leadership annihilated them, but thankfully, we were able to bring them back to the fold, and we are together today,” he added.

On the question of leadership ahead of the 2027 general elections, Asogwa maintained that the party remains confident in its ability to produce another strong presidential candidate.

“So on the issue of the person who is going to drive the face of this project in 2027, I don’t want to preempt what is going to happen in our presidential primaries, but I can assure you that the Labour Party that produced the former presidential candidate has even better capacity today to produce someone of a commensurate stature,” he said.
