Of recent, following the enhancement of military operations against insurgency, the bandits and other criminal elements  resorted to laying mines along some busy roads ,and other vulnerable spots, targeting mostly innocent locals and travelers.

Earlier in the week, reports of mines and other explosive devices laid by terrorists in Maru local Council of Zamfara led to the residents fleeing the area in droves.

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has joined those canvassing  second term for his Osun state counterpart, Ademola Adeleke. He called on the people to give him opportunity for another four years at the end of his first term in office.

This he said was because the governor has recorded unprecedent achievements in the last two yesrs which qualify him for another four years.

He assured that the people of Oyo and Osun states would never give the All Progressives Congress, (APC) a chance to rule the two States again.

According to him, Adeleke’s  achievements are enormous. He urged the people of Osun to give him another opportunity to develop the State.

For Makinde, that Adeleke completed projects initiated by his predecessors marks significance advancement in the leadership of Nigeria, saying it is not for mediocre to tinker.

Makinde noted that Nigeria is only practising unitary system of government and yet to experience true federalism.

Governor Ademola Adeleke, in his speech, said the commissioning of the dualisation of Stadium-Ilesa Garage road – six kilometres- is a fulfilment of the promise he made to the people of the state, adding that the completion of the dualisation within record time has expanded economic growth of the capital city and saved them from untimely death and injuries.

He warned against over speeding on the new road which was initiated by the administration of former governor, Rauf Aregbesola.

Adeleke disclosed that his government has done over 150 kilometres of completed roads, promising not to relent until “our infrastructure is fixed and until collective prosperity is achieved in our dear state.

The  authorities of the Kingdom of Saudi  Arabia has disbursed the  sum of over N 375 million as compensation to Kano pilgrims.

The money is to be remitted directly into  the various bank accounts of the about 6,146  Kano Pilgrims to the Holy Land in 2023 as compensation for any perceived inconveniences suffered during a power outage incident at their Mina Camp during the 2023 Hajj operation.

The Source reports that the power outage also resulted in severe disruption of essential services to the Pilgrims at the camp with its concomitant effects.

Alhaji Lamin Rabiu Danbappa, the Director General of the Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board who disclosed this at a meeting of the Board ,also informed that the  refund was channelled through the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria NAHCON by the Saudi authorities.

A statement from the Board’s spokesperson, Suleiman Dederi, explained that each of the over six thousand pilgrims involved will be receiving the sum of N61,080 as personal and collective inconveniences experienced.

The said money was deducted from the total Hajj package paid by the concerned Pilgrims.

According to him, the refund process, has been methodically structured to avoid any incidents of short-changing of the beneficiaries .

The Pilgrims Board, therefore, reassured of its commitment to the improvement and protection of the welfare of pilgrims.

It, also, expressed its dedication towards collaborating with all relevant authorities towards ensuring quality service delivery.

The Board, however, called on Local Government Hajj Officers across the State to scale up efforts towards promoting the sale of Hajj seats for the 2025 pilgrimage.

It expressed concern over the slow response to the 2025 Hajj exercise which it blamed partly on lack of awareness.

Four Policemen Suspended For Stealing N43 Million

Kayode Egbetokun - IGP

By Akinwale Kasali

The Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun,  has  suspended four Police Officers for their involvement in the theft of ₦43.16 million from a total sum of ₦74.95 million recovered during an unauthorized arrest at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

The suspended Officers who acted outside their mandate are: DSP Peter Ejike, Inspector Ekende Edwin, Inspector Esther Okafor, and Sergeant Talabi Kayode, attached to Zone 7 Headquarters.

The four officers who were suspended after the incident, face dismissal and prosecution for criminal conspiracy, theft, corruption, and professional misconduct.

Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Police Force Spokesperson, confirmed the development to newsmen on Wednesday while reacting to allegations against IGP Egbetokun, of shielding a cartel accused of smuggling suspicious new banknotes from the Central Bank of Nigeria.

While assuring Nigerians of due process in bringing the culprits to justice, Adejobi narrated that the officers, led by Inspector Okafor under DSP Ejike’s directive, arrested Andrew Ejah, an employee of FATFAD Cargo Nigeria Limited, who was transporting the cash on behalf of clients.

The officers reported only ₦31.79 million as the recovered amount, concealing the remaining ₦43.16 million.

Aside from that, they also demanded a percentage of the funds from the suspect to suppress the case from getting to public notice.

Following a petition by the owners of the money, the case was escalated to the IGP Monitoring Unit. Investigations revealed that the officers conspired to steal part of the cash and attempted to hide their tracks by claiming technical issues with evidence and spreading false narratives.

“These officers, led by Inspector Esther Okafor on the instruction of DSP Peter Ejike, unlawfully arrested Andrew Ejah, an employee of FATFAD Cargo Nigeria Limited, who was conveying the cash sum of ₦74,950,000 on behalf of clients. Acting without authorization, they detained Mr. Ejah at the Zone 7 Headquarters, Abuja, and deliberately misrepresented the recovered amount as ₦31,790,000. The officers further demanded a percentage of the funds to suppress the case.

“Upon being contacted by the alleged owners of the money, the officers claimed that the sum they had recovered from the arrested suspect was N31,790,000, and requested a percentage of the money to jeopardise investigation and suppress the case. Outraged by their actions, the money owners petitioned the Force Headquarters, Abuja and the matter was directed to the IGP Monitoring Unit for Investigation.

“During the process, the cash sum of N31,790,000 was recovered from the officers, who claimed that it was the total money recovered from Andrew Ejah during his arrest.

“After intense investigations and a series of trial before duly constituted disciplinary panels, it was discovered that the officers took photographs of the suspect and the sacks of monies at the point of arrest but claimed the phone they used was damaged and subsequently lost, in an attempt to conceal their misconduct. However, forensic intelligence showed that this group of officers conspired and stole part of the money, amounting to N43,160,000, and tasked one of them to move the cash out of the FCT for hiding pending when the heat blows over.

“They, thereafter, resorted to several tricks and gimmicks in order to cover their tracks. One of which is the spread of this false narrative and misinformation to several online blogs and newspaper platforms”.

He, however, dismissed allegations circulating in the media that Egbetokun was shielding a “cartel” smuggling suspicious banknotes, describing these claims as baseless and a diversionary tactic by mischief makers.

Controversy Trails Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah Victory As First Elected Namibia’s Female President

Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah - Namibia President

By Akinwale Kasali

Southern Africa country, Namibia, has been in crisis since last week’s Presidential Election that saw the emergence of Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah as the country’s first ever Female President.

Nandi-Ndaitwah whose Party, SWAPO, has been a dominant force in the country, saw major Opposition Parties in the country disputing the results.

The Electoral Commission of Namibia, ECN, had announced that Nandi-Ndaitwah, who is 72 Years old, captured over 57% of the vote, while her closest rival, Panduleni Itula of the Independent Patriots for Change, IPC, secured 25.5%.

Despite the outcome, the IPC rejected the results, citing irregularities and logistical issues during the voting process.

Nandi-Ndaitwah, a long-serving SWAPO figure, takes over the leadership of the resource-rich country which has been under SWAPO rule since its independence in 1990.

Her leadership marks a new chapter as she becomes one of the few female leaders on the African continent.

The election held on November 27, faced significant logistical problems, including ballot shortages and technical problems with electronic voter registration equipment.

These challenges led to longer voting days and long lines, with some citizens abandoning the process after waiting for as long as twelve hours. The IPC has labeled these issues as deliberate attempts to disenfranchise voters and has vowed to challenge the election results through legal channels.

The South African Human Rights Lawyers Group, which oversaw the election, also criticized the widespread delays, describing them as deliberate.

The ECN has admitted organizational shortcomings, including overheating of electronic devices and insufficient ballots, but has defended the overall process.

Turnout was high: almost 77% of the 1.5 million registered voters took part. The election was seen as a crucial test for SWAPO, which is facing growing dissatisfaction among young voters – a trend mirrored by other liberation-era parties in the region such as South Africa’s ANC and the Botswana Democratic Party , which have recently faced significant political setbacks.

Despite Namibia’s wealth in uranium and diamonds, much of its population of nearly three million people has not seen the benefits, with youth unemployment rising to an estimated 46% in 2018. Nandi-Ndaitwah has pledged to tackle these issues and create jobs through the use of economic diplomacy and attracting investment.

Known for her gold-framed glasses and consistent display of SWAPO’s blue, red and green colors, Nandi-Ndaitwah highlights the experience and wisdom she brings to her new role.

As she rises to power, she faces the challenge of uniting a nation divided by electoral controversies while delivering on her promises to boost economic growth and job creation.

£1.87 Million Alleged Fraud: Pastor Tobi Adegboyega Faces Deportation From UK

0
Pastor Tobi Adegboyega

By Akinwale Kasali

Popular Nigerian Pastor, Tobi Adegboyega, based in the United Kingdom, is on the verge of deportation to Nigeria following his alleged involvement in a  £1.87 million fraud.

It was gathered from UK Telegraph Newspaper that the Pastor has lost his fight against deportation, despite his claims that it would breach his Human Rights.

The 44 Year Old Pastor Adegboyega is  cousin to John Boyega, the popular Star Wars Actor. He faced the Immigration Tribunal and would, now, be deported to his native Nigeria.

Investigations revealed that Pastor Adegboyega misused funds meant for the Church, and also abused his position as the Head of SPAC Nation, as the Church is called.

The Church has been shut down

after a failure to properly account for more than £1.87 million of outgoings, and operating with a lack of transparency.

Adegboyega’s defence as he fights against his deportation is that the deportation would breach his right under the European Convention of Human Rights, ECHR, to a family life – having married a British woman.

He also said the attempt to remove him by the Home Office failed to take account of his community work with SPAC.

His legal team described him as a “charismatic” community leader of a large, well-organised church, and pointed out that he had “intervened in the lives of many hundreds of young people, predominantly from the black communities in London, to lead them away from trouble”.

He claimed his work had been “lauded” by politicians including Boris Johnson and senior figures within the Metropolitan Police, although no testimony by them was submitted to the Court. He said that without his personal presence in London, projects that he had masterminded would fall apart or reduce in size.

However, the Tribunal was told the Home Office contended “all is not as it seems.”

“Various manifestations of [Mr Adegboyega’s] Church have been closed down, by either the Charity Commission or the High Court, because of concerns over its finances and lack of transparency, according to the judgment.

“Investigation also revealed that former members of the Church have alleged that the Church is a cult in which impoverished young people are encouraged to do anything they can to donate money, including taking out large loans, committing benefit fraud and even selling their own blood.

“It is alleged that the church leadership lead lavish lifestyles and there have, it is said, been instances of abuse. The [Home Office’s] case before us was that all of this needs to be taken into account when evaluating whether [Mr Adegboyega] is in fact of real value to the UK.”

It was also gathered that Adegboyega has lived in the UK unlawfully since overstaying on a visitor’s Visa that allowed him to enter Britain in 2005.

In 2019, he applied for leave to remain under ECHR’s right to a family life. His application was initially dismissed by a first-tier Immigration Tribunal before he appealed.

At the tribunal, he maintained no one had ever faced criminal charges over his Church’s  finances, that many of the attacks on him and SPAC Nation were politically motivated and that claims it was a cult were unfounded.

“However, the Tribunal was told the Charity Commission concluded “there had been serious misconduct and/or mismanagement in the administration of the charity which was sustained over a substantial period of time”.

The tribunal also found Adegboyega’s evidence to be “hyperbolic in many instances” and had sought to grossly inflate his influence.

“We find it to be implausible that he has the time to undertake all of this work personally,” it said.

The Tribunal concluded: “We are not satisfied that the good work that SPAC Nation undertakes generally would collapse or even significantly suffer should the Appellant be required to leave the UK.

“Weighing all of the foregoing in the balance we conclude that the decision to refuse leave to remain was wholly proportionate.

“[Mr Adegboyega] seeks to rely on family and private life relationships, all of which have been established whilst he was in the UK unlawfully, and which would survive his return to Nigeria.

“The interference would therefore be limited, and lawful in all the circumstances.”
