In a renewed attack, gunmen, in the early hours on Monday, stormed Kemanji community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State. The attack left a number of people, including security personnel, dead.

It was gathered that the attack, which began around 3.00am, came barely a few days after suspected bandits launched a similar attack on Nuku village in Kaiama local government area, killing five members of the National Forest Guard.

Report added that the bandits had allegedly notified Kemanji community prior to the incident, with palpable fear before the attack was visited on the community.

The attackers reportedly struck in the dead of the night with indiscriminate gunshots that threw the community into panic, forcing residents to scamper for safety.

Local sources revealed that security operatives, including personnel of the Nigerian Army and local vigilante groups, swiftly responded and engaged the bandits in a fierce gun duel that lasted until about 5am.

A source said, “Our security agents, including the army and local vigilantes, engaged the attackers in an intense gun battle that lasted till about 5am.”

The source added that the attackers, upon arrival, allegedly launched an explosive device at a military camp in the area, causing significant damage before advancing further into the community.

During the exchange of fire, casualties were recorded among security personnel.

“They killed some of our soldiers, but we still cannot ascertain how disastrous the attack was until daybreak.”

An eyewitness account further indicated that some soldiers lost their lives while repelling the attack, while a member of the local vigilante group was reportedly shot, with his condition yet to be confirmed.

The witness said, “It’s very pathetic and disheartening. The entire community is in a state of panic, and many villagers have fled. No one can yet predict the number of victims involved.”

The attackers were also said to have carted away some facilities from the military before fleeing the scene.

In the aftermath of the attack, aggrieved youths in the area called for a temporary halt to political activities, describing the development as a moment of collective grief.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN,  has declared force majeure on the Ikeja West–Osogbo 330kV line following a violent rainstorm that affected a key power tower.

Force majeure is a contractual clause freeing parties from liability when an unforeseen, uncontrollable event, such as natural disaster, war, or pandemic happened making it impossible for parties to fulfil obligations.

The Ikeja West–Osogbo 330kV line, according to energy analysts,  is very strategic in the sense that it links Nigeria’s commercial hub, Lagos and other south west states to the National Grid.

The rainstorm, according to the TCN happened on Thursday, April 16, 2026, affected one of the major transmission corridors responsible for evacuating bulk electricity across parts of the South-West.

According to a statement issued on Sunday  by TCN General Manager, Ndidi Mb the transmission line tripped during the storm due to a fault traced to a specific section of the network.

“The Transmission Company of Nigeria wishes to inform the public that a force majeure has occurred on the Ikeja West–Osogbo 330kV transmission line following a severe rainstorm on Thursday, 16 April 2026.

“The line tripped during the storm due to a fault, which was detected at approximately 14.9 kilometres from the Ikeja West (Ayobo) end of the transmission line.”

The TCN said the damage was discovered after a detailed inspection by its maintenance team, which revealed that the  transmission towers along the route had suffered a structural failure, adding that efforts are ongoing by the engineers to “dismantle” the affected towers.

“Further inspection by TCN maintenance crews revealed that Tower No. 515 had collapsed during the storm, with the structure giving way at its midsection. While TCN is mobilising materials and personnel for the re-erection of the fallen tower, Efforts are currently ongoing by its engineers to dismantle the affected tower,” TCN said.

The Kwara state Elder Caucus of the All Progressives Congress,  APC, has urged a former governor of the state, Dr Bukola Saraki to clear his name in the court  over a case preferred against him  by the state government instead of engaging in media campaign.

The state government had recently filed a case against him alongside former Governor Abdufattah Ahmed over the 2018 Offa bank robbery, an allegation that has been denied by the former Senate President.

Dr Saraki has also described the allegation as being politically motivated, citing for instance that he has been granted a clean bill on the case by the administration of Muhammadu Buhari, through the office of his Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, AGF.

But in a statement, the state APC elders warned the former Senate President to stop whipping up public sentiment against the state government who filed the case against him, saying the only place to clear his name is the court, adding that the judicial process should be allowed to take its full cause.

“The court remains the only place where a suspect can prove his innocence, and therefore advises Dr Saraki to face his trial and defend himself on the allegations levelled against him in court rather than resorting to media propaganda,” the APC Elders said.

The Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes, CCII, says some external forces trying to cause a rift between Governor Seyi Makinde and Oubadan of Ibadanland, Oba ladoja have failed.

The Council said the governor and the traditional ruler have now been reconciled saying the relationship between Makinde and Ladoja is that of a ‘father and son.”

The council made this known in a statement issued on Sunday by its Publicity Secretary, Kola Olomide, amidt recent tension in the state over suggestion that the governor has clashed with Oba Ladoja over political differences.

The magazine had earlier reported that there were moves to depose the traditional ruler by the state government over an alleged impeachment plot against the governor linked to him.

They both denied there was a rift.

Quoting the CCII President-General, Ajeniyi Ajewole, the statement explained that the disagreement had been thoroughly addressed as the duo has now been reconciled.

“The issues between Governor Makinde and the Olubadan have been resolved amicably, and the external forces that attempted to create a crisis around the situation have been defeated

“Nobody is planning to impeach Governor Makinde, and nobody is also planning to remove the Olubadan from his throne,” Ajewole stated.

Ajewole described attempts by external actors to escalate the situation as unnecessary and unhelpful, noting that Ibadan has the capacity to manage its own affairs.

He said the relationship between the governor and the Olubadan remains rooted in mutual respect and a father-and-son bond.

“If there is any disagreement between the governor and the Olubadan, it will always be settled internally because their relationship is that of a son and father,” the CCII President-General added.

He noted that Ibadan elders and stakeholders acted swiftly to ensure peace and unity prevailed, stressing that the traditional and political institutions in Ibadan possess the wisdom and experience required to resolve sensitive matters.

Why Goje Will Not Join ADC

Danjuma Goje

A former Governor of Gombe state Danjuma Goje has disclosed that he’s not planning to defect to the African Democratic Congress, ADC contrary to suggestions in some political quarters, saying he will not abandon the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Goje, now a senator said what is paramount in his mind is to deliver his state to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027, saying the president lost the state in 2023 because critical stakeholders of the party were ignored.

The former governor’s remark is contained in a statement by his Special Assistant, Ahmed Isa Kashere, amidst a viral video online claiming he has obtained the ADC membership card.

According to Goje, the “fake membership” was another botched attempt by his traducers, who had in the past, failed to mobilized his constituents against him, saying his people have shown confidence in him by electing back to the Nigerian Senate.

He said he’s a member of the APC soul, body and spirit, that the ongoing efforts to blackmail him will not change the peoples mind to continue to support him.

“The attention of the Office of Senator Mohammad Danjuma Goje, Sarkin Yakin Gombe has been drawn to a fake membership card circulating on social media. Preliminary investigation reveals that it was the handiwork of ingrates in Gombe State to tarnish the image and portray Senator Goje in a bad light.

“The fake membership card was a last resort of these ingrates after failing to mobilise constituents against the people’s Senator. Twice, they mobilised their cronies from the Yamaltu/Deba and Akko LGAs of Gombe Central Senatorial District. But to their dismay, the people shamed them as they unanimously endorsed Senator Goje for another term in the Senate.

“Senator Goje remains a founding member of APC in Gombe State and the country. He is APC, APC is Goje in Gombe State. The cheap blackmail and negative machinations by the ingrates and their cronies will not stop the good people of Gombe Central and indeed Gombe State from their massive support for Senator Goje.”

The Senator, as one of the founding members of the APC has been with the party since 2013.

IMF: Atiku Says Tinubu Has Imposed ‘Renewed Hardship” On Nigerians

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has knocked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the ongoing economic reform, saying the International Monetary Fund, IMF has captured succinctly what’s really happening in the country.

The IMF had last week warned the federal government over rising budget, saying it could be a big problem for the country.

The Tinubu’s administration has borrowed huge loans locally and from foreign creditors, including the IMF since coming to office three years ago, amidst warning by not a few Nigerians that the country’s future is being endangered over piled up debt.

Nigeria’s total public debt, according to checks is known to be around  N159.28 trillion.

Reacting, in a statement issued by his media aide, Phrank Shaibu, the former Nigerians Vice President said the economic policy is a deceit meant to punish the people of the country, noting that Nigerians are suffering while those in government are enjoying.

According to him, the IMF only confirmed the reality in the country, contrary to what the government is trying to project to Nigerians.

he explained that what Nigerians are experiencing under the administration is “renewed hardship” describing the current situation in the country as “national emergency” that the Tinubu’s administration has failed to admit.

“The IMF is not breaking news; it is confirming a national emergency that this administration refuses to acknowledge,” he said.

Abubakar stressed that Nigerians are suffering from all sides, including wage loss, high cost of goods, which have become “unaffordable” for not a few Nigerians, saying ‘survival’ has become so difficult under the current economic situation in the country, adding that Nigerians are supposed to be enjoying per the rise of crude oil price, but nothing to for the high earning from the nation’s major export, crude oil.

Instead many Nigerians are suffering from rising food cost, unstable exchange rate, high transportation cost, and how to send their children to school because of the economic conditions in the country, amidt insecurity which has forced many farmers to abandon their farms.

“At the grassroots, the story is even more brutal,” he continued. “Parents are pulling children out of school because education is now a luxury. Farmers are abandoning their lands out of fear of violence.

“Young people roam the streets, degrees in hand but hope in short supply. Small businesses are folding up like pack of cards under the weight of electricity tariffs, taxes, and a suffocating business climate.

“This administration has turned sacrifice into a one-way street where the people bleed and the government lectures,” Atiku said.

“You cannot ask a hungry people to be patient while policies choke the life out of them. That is not reform, that is punishment,” Abubakar noted.

Atiku also expressed concern over Nigeria’s growing debt burden, warning that the country risked entering a cycle in which present economic hardship is being financed at the expense of future generations.

“We are borrowing like there is no tomorrow, yet there is nothing to show today,” he said. “No jobs, no relief, no visible improvement in the lives of the people, only mounting debt and mounting pain.”

He further criticised the administration’s obsession with abstract economic theories while ignoring the human cost.

“Governance is not a classroom exercise,” he said. “It is about whether a pot boils in the kitchen, whether transport fare can be afforded, whether a small trader can restock, and whether a nation’s youth can dream again. Today, those simple things have become distant luxuries.”

Tension In Nasarawa APC, As Former Gov El-Makura. Fmr. IGP Reject Gov Sule’s  Preferred Successor

Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa

By Suleiman Anyalewechi

A former Inspector General of Police,  Mohammed Adamu, has rejected the purported endorsement of a gubernatorial aspirant by Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule ahead of the 2027 polls.

This is as former Governor Tanko  El-Makura described Sule’s endorsement of Senator Aliu Wadada as the preferred choice of the All Progressive Congress, APC,  in the forthcoming elections as both hasty and unacceptable.

The Source reports that the Nasarawa State Governor, had, last week, announced Wadada, the Senator representing Nasarawa West as his preferred successor.

Senator Wadada who was elected on the platform of the Social Democratic party SDP only recently defected to the APC.

However, Senator El-Makura who presided over Nasarawa State between 2011 and 2015 faulted the endorsement exercise for not being a product of wide consultations and adequate considerations.

He described the endorsement as a unilateral decision of the Governor, alleging that many APC and stakeholders, including himself, as a former Governor of the State were never privy to the purported endorsement.

Similarly, at an  interactive session with the Media,  former IGP Adamu  declared that he will continue to pursue his gubernatorial ambition despite the Governor’s endorsement of Senator Wadada.

Adamu also maintained that contrary to widespread insinuations, he is still a loyal member of the APC, and insisted that the party will be his political platform .

While conceding to the right of the Governor to political preferences, Adamu, however, noted his personal right to pursue his political ambition, and the right of party members and the people of Nasarawa to take the final decision.

“When someone endorses a candidate who he wants, he has the right to do so. But he does not have the right to decide the future of Nasarawa for everyone.

“Again, people are speculating that because of the development ,that I may leave the APC for another.party

“That is  not true. We are not going anywhere. We are in APC and will remain in APC to pursue my ambition.

“Despite the purported endorsement, I will contest till the end, and by the grace of God, we will secure victory.”, the former Police boss stated.

But Governor Sule has remained adamant about his stand , noting that it is in tandem with the pursuit.of equity and fairness in the political equation of the state

According to the Governor , equity and fairness demand that the Governorship seat be zoned to Nasarawa West Senatorial District.
