Full Speech: Peter Obi’s New Year Advice To Tinubu in 2025

0
Peter Obi and Bola Tinubu

My Fellow Nigerians, Happy New Year!  As we begin the New Year 2025, it has become imperative for me to speak to you as a Nigerian interested in the progress of the country.

The political, economic and security situation of our country is worsening daily, despite contrary positions and claims by the government of improvement in different spheres of human endeavour.

Our national challenges are visibly worsening. Our nation and its fortunes are in clear reverse. The indices are clearly indicative of our decline,

Our national indices tell a disconcerting story

Nigeria remains one of the poverty capitals of the world, with over 100 million people living in extreme poverty and more than 150 million in multidimensional poverty. The situation has deteriorated significantly over the past 18 months under the current administration.

As a nation, we have fallen from being the largest economy in Africa, with a GDP of $574 billion and a per capita income of over $3,500 in 2014, to now ranking fourth on the continent. Our current GDP is less than 50% of what it was a decade ago, standing at approximately $200 billion, with a per capita income of barely $1,000.

Nigeria remains one of the most insecure and least peaceful nations in the world, with countless communities and families displaced from their homes and now living in IDP camps. According to the Global Peace Index (GPI), Nigeria ranks 143rd out of 163 countries in terms of peacefulness – an indication of a high level of distress.

Food insecurity has become our new national norm, making Nigeria one of the hungriest countries in the world. Gainfully employed and middle-income Nigerians now spend nearly their entire incomes on feeding, with some even resorting to borrowing just to eat.

For those living on the margins –  low-income earners and the unemployed – the situation is even more dire. The newly approved minimum wage of N70,000 cannot afford a bag of rice or even half a bag of beans. As a result, many Nigerians go to bed hungry, while a significant number now rely on palliatives and charitable support. Tragically, this has recently led to several avoidable deaths. Nigeria’s ranking on the 2024 Global Hunger Index is 110th out of 127 countries, reflecting a critical level of hunger and food insecurity in the nation.

We have earned the dubious distinction of being one of the countries with the largest number of people without access to electricity.

In 2024, despite abysmal and unacceptable power generation and distribution, the frequency of National Grid collapse increased significantly, with the Grid failing 12 times in 12 months. As a result, we are now mockingly referred to as the “generator country.” This persistent lack of adequate energy supply continues to hinder our national development.

Corruption, official malfeasance, fiscal profligacy, and the mismanagement of public resources continue to rise astronomically in our country, spreading across all spheres of government. Similarly, nepotism and the disregard for the Constitution, the rule of law, and due process have become the norm.

*Our national debt has risen astronomically, from approximately N15 trillion in 2015 to N100 trillion today. This sharp increase has occurred within the past 18 months under the current administration. Ironically, these borrowings are largely allocated to non-regenerative programmes and projects, leaving little to no tangible developmental assets to show for the debt.

Inflation remains at an all-time high, businesses are collapsing, and manufacturing companies are barely surviving, further contributing to the already high unemployment rate.

We hold periodic elections that are no longer genuine. Our electoral processes are visibly flawed, lacking transparency and credibility.

Although Nigeria is a democratic country, the electoral processes fall far below acceptable standards, with the people’s votes often not counting.

Suggestions on the way forward

From all indications, Nigeria urgently needs selfless and exemplary leadership across the three arms and tiers of government.

However, this much-needed exemplary leadership must begin at the very top. Since the ultimate responsibility lies with Mr. President, I will direct my attention to him. Mr. President, present-day Nigeria aligns closely with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s powerful words: “We are confronted with the fierce urgency of now. This is no time for apathy or complacency.

This is a time for vigorous and positive actions.” Because we all love Nigeria and desire its prosperity, I would like to suggest some actions I would have personally approached differently. It is time to confront our national problems boldly, decisively, and with a sense of urgency. My suggestions are as follows:

Commence a visible and verifiable reduction in the cost of governance to allocate much-needed resources to critical areas of development, such as security, health, education, and poverty alleviation.

Aggressive and visible attention should be given to combating corruption effectively. While addressing past corrupt activities, we must ensure proper investigations and recoveries related to missing funds or their sources. The focus should be on eliminating current and future official malfeasance through increased transparency and accountability in public procurement and contract award processes, as well as thorough monitoring of execution to ensure that limited resources are efficiently utilized and applied productively.

All future borrowing must be tied to regenerative investments and visible, productive assets that benefit the nation. This will ensure both productivity and the ability to service and amortize such loans, rather than continuing the current practice of accumulating massive debt with no tangible returns, which places undue strain on future development revenue.

Mr. President, out of the approximately 580 days you have been in office, it is reported that you have spent over 30%, or around 180 days, on more than 30 publicly recorded overseas trips. My appeal is that you dedicate at least 20% of 2025 – roughly 72 days – to visit each of Nigeria’s 36 states for two days each. As President, such visits would give you the opportunity to better understand the dire economic and security situations across the country.

Furthermore, it is time for you to visit our national hospitals. Consider, for example, that your next medical examination be conducted at one of our National Hospitals or Regional Federal Medical Centres, such as the FMC in Sokoto or Birnin Kebbi or Calabar or Umuahia or Akure, among others. This will allow you to assess the state of healthcare facilities available to Nigerians. It will also help you understand the condition of our hospitals and clinics, enabling you to make informed decisions on how to upgrade and  make them efficient.

Endeavour to travel by road to observe the condition of most highways. You can take short trips, for example, from Calabar in Cross River State to Uyo in Akwa Ibom State, a distance of less than 100 km, or from Benin in Edo State to Warri in Delta State. I recall taking President Olusegun Obasanjo on a trip from Awka to Onitsha on a federal highway when I was the Governor of Anambra State. That journey prompted him to immediately approve the reconstruction of parts of the road by the Anambra State government, with subsequent reimbursement by the federal government. Such actions are immensely valuable.

Make both impromptu and planned visits to our tertiary institutions, where our children and future leaders are being trained, are essential to familiarize yourself with the available infrastructure, facilities, and amenities. These visits will provide valuable insight into whether the resources of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) are being utilized optimally and what is needed to sustain the education system. I recall President Shagari visiting the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, when I was a student there and telling us, ‘I have seen the facilities myself, and I assure you of my intervention.’ Institutional facilities improved significantly thereafter.

As Commander-in-Chief, visit our military formations and security agencies, especially during their field operations, and provide them with morale-boosting assurances and support for operational efficiency. Reiterate that they and their families will always be taken care of.

Mr. President, many Nigerians are ‘refugees’ and ‘exiles’ in their own country. Visit various IDP camps and assure these Nigerians that they will soon return to their communities, and that you are working hard to restore peace and normalcy to the country. Nigeria is not a war-torn nation. The proliferation of IDP camps is a troubling sign.

As President, you are no longer the Governor of Lagos State; therefore, consider spending your holidays in different parts of the country. Let your next Sallah, Easter, and Christmas holidays be spent in places like Adamawa, Sokoto, Jos, Akure, Yenagoa, or Abakaliki, among others.

The single most challenging test you face is ensuring that future elections are credible and truly reflect the will of the people.

.

Finally, Mr. President, Nigerians need to hear directly from you, not through your proxies. Quarterly updates on what you are doing to improve the situation in Nigeria is crucial.

God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria

CNPP To Wike: “Extend Deadline for Payment of Certificates of Occupancy”

Nyesom Wike - FCT Minister

The Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP) is appealing to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to grant an extension to the owners of the 762 revoked plots of land in Maitama, Abuja, to pay for their Certificates of Occupancy (Cs of O).

The CNPP, in a statement signed by its Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Comrade James Ezema, noted that the initial two-week grace period given to the affected allottees, which expires today, January 3, 2025, is insufficient considering the current economic challenges facing the country.

“We are appealing to the Minister and the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) to tamper justice with mercy and issue an extension in the spirit of the yuletide and in view of the economic challenges in the country,” the statement read.

The CNPP emphasized that the extension would give the affected individuals and groups ample time to comply with the directive, thereby avoiding any undue hardship or loss.

“We pray that the Minister and the FCTA will grant the allottees an extension to comply with the directive, giving all the affected individuals and groups enough time to have themselves to blame at the end of the final extension,” the statement added.

The CNPP’s appeal comes on the heels of its recent expression of concern over the escalating hunger and suffering faced by millions of Nigerians due to the economic realities in the country.

E-Signed:
Comrade James Ezema
Deputy National Publicity Secretary,
CNPP.

“Obi Is No 1 Opposition Leader In Nigeria”; Has Retired Atiku, Others- Omokri

Reno Omokri, a former aide  President Goodluck Jonathan has expressed his admiration for the 2023 Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, LP, Peter Obi for being the only one standing among key opposition figures in the country.

Omokri shared his remark on his verified Facebook page on Friday, in a rare support for Obi’s presidential ambition.

According to the former presidential adviser, Obi has retired top opposition leaders such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, Rabiu Kwakwanso of the New Nigerian people Party, NNPP.

Obi came third in the 2023 presidential election,  won by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress, APC who secured over 12 million votes. The LP candidate scored over six million votes, according to the results declared by the the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, while Abubakar of the PDP scored over eight million votes.

In the aftermath of the election, political analysts have credited Obi for being more visible among other key opposition figures,by constantly taking on the ruling APC and its policies.

In his latest criticism of the Tinubu administration on Thursday, January 2, 2025 the LP strongman accused the APC-led government of failing to address the worsening economic and security challenges in his first 18 months in office. President Tinubu came to office on May 29, 202.

APC has described him as a ‘doomsday’ politician following the uncomplimentary  remark.

Omokri said in his post that other opposition figures in the country have become irrelevant, adding that anyone who thinks otherwise is ‘deluded’.

Even though he’s not an admirer of the LP candidate, Omokri said Obi has trudged on despite all the challenges, noting that he has a better future if could become less ‘Igbo-centric, appeal to his Obidients to use persuasive rather than abusive words’ against opponents.

He said, “Peter Obi is currently the Number One opposition figure in Nigeria. Bar none. Anybody in any opposition party who thinks that he is bigger than Obi right now is ‘just deluded’.

“The man, Obi, is severely flawed, but I admire how he has trudged on despite the obstacles he faces. Some people in one or two opposition parties have already been retired by Obi, but they just don’t know it yet because their money is keeping them on political life support.

“If only he could be less Igbo-centric, appeal to his Obidients to use persuasive rather than abusive words and admit, then apologise for his ‘Yes Daddy’ ‘religious war’ comment against the Muslim Ummah, he would go far. Those are his Achilles heel. He cannot cross the Rubicon without addressing them.”

The magazine reported that Obi met with three top leaders in the country, including former President Olusegun Obasanjo, former military Head of State, Gen Ibrahim Babangida (rtd.) and President Goodluck Jonathan within the week, in a what political analysts said was part of his plan for the 2027 presidential election.

After five years of hunting, the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, (NAPTIP) has announced the re- arrest of a convicted Socialite and arrowhead of an International human trafficking network, Christiana Jacob, aka Christy Gold.

The convict is reported to be operating across the Middle Eastern countries with an operational base in the United Arab Emirate (UAE) Dubai.

A statement in Friday by NAPTIP Press Officer, Vincent Adekoye, stated that she has been on the wanted list of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) since the past five years.

According to the statement, “Christy Gold, as she is popularly called by the gang members, was arrested and handed over to NAPTIP by the Officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) on duty at the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja, on 31st December 2024, on arrival from Dubai for new year celebration.

“Her suspected other accomplices, one Michael Nduka, Osas Wiseman, Vivian, and a certain Prophet John in Lagos along with others are field officers who assist in the recruitment and subsequent transfer of victims to Christy Gold, are still on the run.

“It would be recalled that on the 18th March 2020, the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Ikeja Airport Command shared intelligence with NAPTIP Joint Border Task Force/Benin Satellite Office (JBTF/BSO) in respect of one Uadiale Christiana Jacob aka Christy Evan Osagie aka  Christy Gold of No 15 Osagie Street, Off 2nd Power Line, Egbon Estate,   Benin City, Edo State.

“Uadiale Christiana Jacob popularly known as Christy Gold is a senior member of an organized human trafficking syndicate notorious for the recruitment, trafficking and sexually exploiting of underage Nigerian girls in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

“Following the Agency’s investigation into the alleged offense to establish culpability, Christiana Uadiale Jacob was arrested by NAPTIP in Ikpoba Hill area, Benin City on the 13th of October 2020 for her involvement in the trafficking of aged Nigerian girls to Dubai, United Arab Emirates for forced prostitution.

“She was charged to the Federal High Court, Asaba, Delta State on the 25th of November 2020, where she was granted bail. While on Court bail, Christiana Uadiale Jacob violated the terms of the bail and absconded to Dubai.

“After failing severally to appear before the Court, a Bench Warrant was therefore issued by the sitting Judge on the 3rd of November 2021 for her arrest.

“To get Christiana Uadiale Jacob to face justice for her crimes, NAPTIP sought the assistance and collaboration of the Honourable Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, National Central Bureau (NCB), INTERPOL Nigeria, National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) and the United Arab Emirates Police for her arrest and extraction to Nigeria.

“Even while she tried to evade justice, NAPTIP did not relent and as a result of our diligent prosecution of the case, Christiana Uadiale Jacob was convicted for human trafficking in absentia by Honourable Justice F . A Olubanjo of the Federal High Court, Asaba, Delta State on the 21st of March 2024 with sentencing being awaited whenever she is rearrested and brought before the Honourable Court.

“Luck however ran out on her on the 31st of December 2024, as Officers Nigeria Immigration Service acting in respect of NAPTIP’s request for watchlisting dated 22nd February 2023, nabbed her on arrival to Nigeria.”

Speaking on the development, Director General of NAPTIP,  Binta Adamu Bello,, lauded the efforts of the Nigerian Immigration Service for apprehending the fleeing human trafficking convict, saying that it was a commendable demonstration of inter-agency collaboration.

She said, “I want to specially thank our sister Law Enforcement Agency, the NIS for the arrest of the convict.

“Recalled that a few weeks ago, I visited the Comptroller General of NIS and the outcome of that advocacy visit is this improved synergy and very efficient collaboration.

“NAPTI also appreciates the efforts of other members of the Intelligence Community who are working behind the scenes to apprehend these fellows.

“The convict that has been arrested and convicted will surely be taken to the Court to face the sentence by the Law.

“This is a clear message to other members of this international criminal gang who are still on the run: They can only hide for a while; they can never hide forever.

“We have already activated all necessary security and intelligence apparatus, and our partners around the World are on the lookout for these elements. Very soon, the net will catch them.

“I am happy it was a sad end for human traffickers in the country in 2024 and we promise them a hell in 2025.

“We are more determined and will be more decisive this year to fish them out and ensure the protection of Nigerians from trafficking, exploitation, and violence against persons.”

FG Announces Return Of History Classes To Nigerian Schools

Dr Tunji Alausa

By Akinwale Kasali

The Federal Government has succumbed to pressure and ordered the return of History Classes to Nigerian Schools.

The reinstatement of History as a Subject in Primary and Secondary Schools nationwide, starting in 2025 was rife, following public outcry that greeted its removal from the Nigerian school curriculum in 2007, which sparked widespread criticism over the years.

During former President Muhammadu, Buhari’s administration, there was clamour for it to be reinstated but his administration remained defiant.

The decision, described as a directive from President Bola Tinubu, was revealed by Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, during an appearance on Channels Television’s End-of-Year Special Review program.

Minister Alausa noted that the removal of History from the school curriculum by previous administrations has left significant gaps in young Nigerians’ understanding of their nation’s past.

“We now have 30-year-olds who are completely alienated from our past. It doesn’t occur anywhere in the world,” he stated.

The Minister emphasized that the reintroduction of history aims to reconnect students with their cultural and historical heritage. “We have reinstated that in our curriculum per President Bola Tinubu’s directive. That will be a part of the curriculum for our primary and secondary school students starting in 2025,” he said.

This move has been lauded by many education stakeholders who believe it will help foster a deeper sense of identity and national pride among young Nigerians.

LASG Teachers Demand Shift In School Resumption Date Over Death Of Colleagues

Lagos State Government Secondary School Teachers have urged the Lagos State Government and the State Ministry of Education to shift the January 6th, 2025, resumption date of Students to a later date following the death of five of their colleagues  in a fatal accident while going for an Audit Exercise.

The victims were said to have been deployed from their place of Primary Assignment to Pobuna Junior Secondary Grammar School, Epe.

Adewuyi Adeyeye, one of the victims, was returning from a Staff Audit Exercise, when he died in an auto crash along Ijebu- Ode/Epe road. His death prompted his colleagues to demand that the State Government postpone resumption for public school students, particularly around the Epe axis of the State.

The teachers have also requested that the State Government suspend the ongoing staff audit or decentralize the exercise to prevent further casualties across the State.

They stated this after the deceased teacher, who was deployed to Pobuna Junior Secondary Grammar School, Epe, was laid to rest and the injured victims were rushed to other tertiary medical facilities for better healthcare services.

According to the teachers, the trauma from the auto crash, especially for the colleagues of the deceased and injured teachers, who were from the same school, is unbearable for them.

One of the female teachers who pleaded anonymity in a video stated that the deceased teacher and the 15 other victims were staff deployed to Pobuna Junior Secondary Grammar School, Epe. She said she does not understand how the school could operate with such casualty.

She added that a large number of teachers around Epe were already traumatised considering the poor welfare their employer, the Lagos state government, often subjected them to.

“We are concerned that the government does not care for us. We are often treated poorly. There is a need for an investigation into this accident and we do not want it swept under the carpet because a teacher was killed by cultists in Epe recently and till today, the culprits have not been uncovered. We do not want this to be like that”.

Speaking on behalf of the teachers, the Secretary, Lagos chapter of the Nigerian Union of Teachers, NUT, Gbenga Aiyetoba, stressed that death and injuries sustained during the auto crash would have been avoidable if the government had considered teachers deployed to schools in Epe and Badagry axis of Lagos before fixing locations for the audit exercise in the state.

Aiyetoba noted that the Government must often consider the terrain of schools where the teachers were deployed before mandating their employees to resume at the state capital, Ikeja, for an audit exercise that could be done without his colleagues traveling many miles.

According to him, it is sad that the audit exercise at the Alausa Secretariat in Ikeja is a waste of time and resources for both the teachers and the State Government.

“The number of audit staff attending to the teachers were insufficient which made the employees leave home very early, spend many hours waiting, and return home late. And the reason for this is that the government embarked on this needless centralized audit exercise.

“Based on this, we are demanding that the audit exercise be suspended to avoid recording another auto crash when the teachers travel to Ikeja in compliance with the government directives.

“And when the exercise is to resume, the government should be ready to decentralize the procedure to ease the pain teachers in Epe and Badagry could go through to present their documents before the audit team. If not, they will travel many miles to complete the exercise”.

In a chat with the Deputy Director of Public Affairs, Ministry of Basic And Secondary Education, Kayode Sutton, said that the request from the teachers has been noted, adding the Government will respond to their demands soon.

Sutton further added that the Government considers teachers’ welfare which was the reason the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Tolani Alli-Balogun, visited the accident scene and the victims in the hospital, as well as, the family of the deceased teacher after news of the auto crash filtered in.

It would be recalled that when the incident occurred, spokesperson for the Ministry of Education had eaelier debunked reports that five people died, saying only one teacher died during the accident that occurred while they were returning from Ikeja.

“The Teachers, who were returning from the ongoing staff audit exercise organized by the State Government in a convoy, ran into an articulated vehicle driving against traffic and collided with the lead bus in the convoy.

1“Two of the severely injured Teachers had been referred to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), while others received treatment at the Epe General Hospital”.

Following this development, the LASG is yet to give a directive on whether the resumption date for the Students in the affected Schools and axis will be postponed.

The National Population Commission, (NPC), has successfully registered more than ten million children and issued them birth certificates across Nigeria.

Chairman of NPC, Alhaji Nasir Kwarra, disclosed this during the presentation of birth certificate to the first baby of the year in Abuja by the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.

A statement on his behalf by the Director of Public Affairs, Taibat Oloruntoba, stated that the exercise took place at Asokoro General Hospital, Abuja.

Kwarra, represented by the Federal Commissioner from Katsina, Bala Banya, emphasised the Commission’s  commitment to ensure every child born in Nigeria is registered and receive a birth certificate.

He explained that with the digitisation of the registration system and partnerships with the Primary Health Care Agency, children, no matter where they are born, would be registered.

Kwarra urged parents and guardians to take advantage of the free registration service provided by the commission.

Director-General of the NPC, Telson Ojogun highlighted the commission’s plans to establish more than 4,000 additional registration centres nationwide, making it easier for Nigerians to register their children.

He also stressed that the commission was utilising modern technology to ensure that each registered child had a unique, irreplaceable identity.

Ojogun also expressed gratitude to the First Lady, who was represented by the wife of the Vice President, Hajiya Nana Shettima, for presenting the certificate to the first baby of the year.

Ojogun encouraged Nigerians to register deaths with the commission, helping to maintain an accurate and reliable population register.

NNPC Mocks Obasanjo, Invites Him To Visit ‘Working’ Refineries

As the controversies over the state of the nation’s crude oil refineries persist, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL has invited former President Olusegun Obasanjo to the refineries.

There are four refineries in the country including the Port Harcourt, Warri and Kaduna refineries. They have been in a state of comatose for years despite all the resources expended on them.

The NNPC had recently disclosed that three of the four refineries in Port Harcourt and Warri have been revamped, and back to operations even as it promised to bring the Kaduna refinery back to life.

Obasanjo had few days ago ‘mockingly’  hinted that the refineries ‘can’t’ work citing past efforts by former administrations in the country to bring them back to operations were frustrated by the NNPCL.

The refineries “will not work as long as the government is keeping hold of them” and due to the endemic corruption in the system, Obasanjo said.

Olusegun Obasanjo

For instance, the former Nigerian leader claimed  that Shell, an international oil company, IOC, had rejected the offer to manage the refineries citing endemic corruption among its officials, while plan by Africa’s Richest Man, Aliko Dangote to take over the refineries were botched by the oil corporation.

NNPCL frustrated the $750 million bid by Dangote to run the oil refineries, the former president said.

Meanwhile, NNPCL has mildly rebuffed Obasanjo’s claim that the refineries have yet to be revamped.

The company in a statement signed by its Chief Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye on Friday invited Obasanjo  to ascertain the true state of the refineries by visiting the facilities.

Soneye said there is no going back on the efforts by the NNPCL  to provide the country with energy stability, adding that the huge resources expended on the refineries have paid of, calling on Obasanjo to work the company to in its determination to achieve energy security for the country.

The statement read in part: “We invite our esteemed former president to join us in this effort as we continue to deliver energy security for our nation and provide tangible benefits to Nigerians.

“His wisdom and experience are invaluable, and we assure him that his advice will always be welcomed and appreciated.

“Furthermore, we extend an open invitation to President Obasanjo for a tour of the rehabilitated refineries to witness firsthand the progress made under the new NNPC Limited.

“As part of this transformation, NNPC Limited has gone beyond oil and gas to become an integrated energy company. One of our notable achievements is the complete rehabilitation of the Port Harcourt Refining Company (PHRC) and Warri Refinery.

“We welcome President Obasanjo to witness the transformation of the Port Harcourt Refinery. This is not a mere Turnaround Maintenance, but a comprehensive overhaul aligned with global standards.

“The revitalisation of refineries in Port Harcourt, Warri, and Kaduna underscores the company’s commitment to Nigeria’s energy security,” Soneye said.

2027: Obi Seeks IBB, Obasanjo’s Backing

Peter Obi and Obasanjo

Barely few hours after the 202 Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, LP, met with former military dictator, Gen Ibrahim Babangida (rtd.) he has also had a meeting with former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

The former Anambra governor met the two leaders in Minna and Lagos even as those familiar with the meetings said the meetings  may not be unconnected with the state of the nation.

Obi said who posted the pictures of the meetings on his verified X platform did not reveal the details of the meetings, even though he hinted that all was about national interest.

Two sources privy to the meetings however informed the magazine that Obi must met with the two leaders over his 2027 presidential bid.

The LP strongman has yet to make his intention known on the 2027 presidential race, there are serious suggestions that he’s planning to take  a second shot at the country’s top job.

In preparation for the next presidential election, Obi, last year  established the Obidient Movement, according to political analysts who have also suggested that his days in LP are numbered due to the wranglings and struggle for control between him and the party’s National Chairman, Julius Abure.

Recall that Abure, as part of the struggle for the soul of LP disclosed last year that the party’s presidential ticket is no longer exclusive for the former governor, thus heightening the the suggestions that Obi may be forced to to achieve his ambition to rule the country through  another platform.

Speaking on the meeting with Obasanjo, who he described as a pillar and strong voice in the country,  the former governor said it’s in the interest of the country, and how to move her forward.

He wrote: “Yesterday, I travelled from Abuja to Lagos to visit a father figure, Leader, and Former President of Nigeria, His Excellency Olusegun Obasanjo, to wish him a happy new year and also deliberate on issues of national concern.

“To date, he continues to add his voice of wisdom to solving the many challenges facing us as a nation.”

Obasanjo had in 2023 threw his weight behind Obi, describing him as the best candidate to rule the country.

The former governor lost the keenly contested election to incumbent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu after coming a distant third, according to the results released by the Independent National Electoral commission, INEC.
